I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream.

I came home from Mom's this morning and there was a package on my porch. I am sure most of you remember Shirley from S16. She and her husband went to this year's Rose Bowl Parade and Game. She knew I was a big Oregon fan. The package was the Program for this year's Rose Bowl. I was really pleased.

By the way the day at Mom's was much better yesterday. The argument from the night before was pretty much forgotten. Probably best. It certainly made for less stress and more enjoyment.

To celebrate let's start out with a good story:

Which is louder a chainsaw or a hospital room? Don't be so quick to answer:

If you want some peaceful rest don't go to the hospital!

Speaking of loud noise the following article about scream rooms just makes me wonder how such stupid people get in charge of schools.

Nice of Shirley to send you that program. Also very nice that your day at your mom's was better. I guess she got her frustration out yesterday and you just happened to be there to take it on the chin. Sigh.

It's amazing the lengths some people will go to to be nice. I suspect I wouldn't have an idea what to do about finding a class ring's owner from so long ago. Do they have names on them? I think I had one from h.s. (silly and never wore it), and I don't remember it having a name on it.

I might have answered that a hospital room wins the noise prize. Obviously not a steady chainsaw level, but they are certainly noisy enough to keep a person from sleeping. Not to mention somebody coming in every morning at 4 a.m. to draw blood.

Good grief! "Scream rooms"? With blood and urine on the floors? Are kids locked into these 6 x 4 ft rooms for punishment? Are the lights kept on? How long are they in there? Sure sounds like torture to me. They probably took lessons from the CIA. Is waterboarding next?

Good news on the better day at Mom's. How sweet of Shirley to send you the program.

Kudos to the diver, who took the time to track down the family. What a wonderful heirloom to pass on to future generations. As I recall, my high school ring had only the name of the school (no location) and the year of graduation, so the diver had to do a lot of research, I imagine.

I've few doubts about hospital room noise. I've, fortunately, spent little time in such as a patient, but those were nightmares, with mal-functioning IVs constantly beeping, noise from the hall (they had to leave the door open, I forget why), staff talking, codes, intercoms. I spent more time than I care to count with Mom, although I usually left around 10:00 pm, but I've a suspicion the day noise didn't die down much. I wish I'd thought of taking her a tape or CD player with earphones to drown out the noise.

The "scream rooms" sound like a school staffed by individuals at the end of the ropes and inadequately trained to deal with special needs children, their emotions and moods. Locking a child away in what's basically a closet certainly isn't the answer to misbehavior directed by something other than excessive aggression or rebellion and not even for those. If they think this is a substitute for "go stand in the corner," they're way wrong. I can't imagine the long term harm they're doing to these children, as well as the way it's affecting the other students, based on parents' comments.

Hi Pat

The program was almost 200 pages and had a lot of history in it. It was fun reading it.

Mom was pleasant today too so maybe it was a one time thing.

It is amazing what lengths people go to, to be nice. I wouldn't even tried to find a class ring's owner. I thing the ring just has the short name of the school and the year graduated.

When I was in the hospital for an extended stay it used to bother me when they would wake me up to give me my sleeping pill. And the last time I was in the hospital there was a lot going on all twenty-four hours.

Can you believe that? Scream rooms for school kids? I would definitely clasify it as torture and the fact there are adults that think it is OK to use those rooms are pitfully clueless.

Hi DR

It was a nice surprise from Shirley. Spent some nice time reading the program today. If all days were like yesterday and today at Mom's life would be easy.

Your high school ring was the same as mine. KUHS 64 was all that was on it. He definitely had to research, school location, then students that graduated that year and so on.

The intercoms were the big thing for me when I was in the hospital. That and the central location of the trackers (heart beat etc) plus the beeping of patients lights that need a nurse.

I don't know if the individuals were at the end of their ropes are just plain cruel and stupid. Certainly they had to know that kind of punish would not help and would do no good. I imagine they may be making criminals out of some of the students.

I am so glad you liked the program from the Rose Bowl game. The game was so fun and I had to pick a team in advance so I opted to cheer for the Oregon Ducks! We won! I knew the program would need to go to a home where it would be read and appreciated! :-)
Hi Pat and DR !!
Bill, I'm sorry that you had to be on the receiving end of your mother's difficult comments. I'm glad she is pleasant again. The older folks do have their mood swings! It's hard not to take their comments personally.

SHIRLEY!!

It is so nice to see you post here.
I think the Ducks owe you because your karma lead them to victory.

The thing about the program was the history. And OK, this will surprise you I loved the ads. The history and the ads, not to mention the rosters and the game records. It is what I call a coffee table book, one that you pick up several times to read.

Mom has been especially nice the past couple of days I think she reazlized that she went to far.
