Top Chef Plus What I Learned About My Life This Week

First, Top Chef. I am pretty sure the finals will be between Stephanie and Richard because there is no way in hell Lisa has a chance to win and if she does I will be spitting nails. Lisa has to be one of the most unlikable people ever on TV. She was upset that Richard and Stephanie didn't congratulate her on making the final three and told them she thought that they thought the wrong person went home. You think? Where has Lisa been the past twelve weeks or so when the three best chefs, Antonia, Richard, and Stephanie bonded and worked so well together? I have news for Lisa 91% of the people polled wanted Lisa to go, 5% wanted Antonia to go, 2% each wanted Richard and Stephanie to go and those 2% were Lisa's relatives! The final show should be interesting.

Next, I learned a lot this week. I learned that I hate accounting seminars. Also learned that sometimes men really are annoying. In the men's rest room at one of the seminars there is a sign on the light switch that says "turn lights off when leaving." The only time the lights were shut off is when I left. None of the others ever shut that light off. I always thought most men could read!

The other thing I learned is moving is darn hard especially when the assisted living center where mom is at kind of pushed mom out of respite care to the new apartment and did so by promising to help with the move. They didn't keep their promise. They didn't help at all. We hired movers to move the big stuff from home to the new apartment and from the old apartment to the new apartment but since C. Springs had promised to help move the clothes etc we let the movers go after the big stuff was done. I ended up having to move the stuff a long with Mom. We got done about three. I spent the night at Mom's apartment because I felt she might have trouble adjusting to the new surroudings. She did fine and truthfully it was nice to have another body around at night.

Which is the last thing that I learned. I no longer like being alone. I really like having company. It is a place that I thought I would never arrive at. So I am thinking about getting a roommate. I'm not going to do anything rash until I have thought things through. But it is something that I am considering.

Hope this is a great day of all of you.

You're sure right about Lisa. I was amused at that poll with 91% wanting her to go. It probably would have been 99% if it was taken after her little snit about not being congratulated. Has anybody ever been congratulated after surviving one of those?

Also amused at your being the only one to shut lights off. I'm becoming the nonofficial light-turner-offer at the facility where my mother lives. Not only in the bathroom, just about every unoccupied room I leave.

And yes, moving is darned hard. We moved my mom from room to room twice at the other facility, and even with movers for the big stuff, it was an all-day exhausting business. She just moved rooms at the new place, and they did everything.

A roommate? [big grin] Lotsa luck!

Sorry I'm so remiss about posting here lately. Staying busy with school and work. I don't mind unpacking but I don't like to pack. Strange, huh? I wonder sometimes if I'm lonely and then I think, nahhhh, I like doing what I want when I want. Of course, maybe some day God will change my mind before I know it : )

Hi Pat

I was surprised also that more than 91% of the people didn't want Lisa gone. I was also surprised that when Stephanie got to choose the teams that she didn't match Dale and Lisa up again to make it sure that Lisa would be gone.

Shutting the lights off has always been my style, it is cheaper, and more energy conscious.

I didn't know your mom just moved to another room. How is it going with the care giver? Did you find a new one?

Hi There Synmply

I'm surprised you found time at all to post on my blog with school and parenting. I am just happy whenever you find the time.

I've been doing what I want when I want for so long now that I want to try something different. Although I have said before that a duplex marriage would work for me. She lives on side, I on the other, we get together for dates and support. I can dream.

That sounds like a lot of moving to me. Maybe you can explain to me what respite care is? I hope it all works out for your mother the way she and you both want it.

You are right in that Lisa is the most unlikable person on TV.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if she won? :)

Hi Dona

Respite care is basically temporary care to give regular care givers a break from the care giving. Or a respite from care giving. Most assisted living centers offer what they call respite care for anywhere from one day to a month. The facilities set aside two or three apartments and furnish them. Then when the caregiver needs a break the person being cared for can go to the facility until the regular care giver is refreshed. It is an easy move because the respite care resident only needs to bring clothes. Even the dishes are furnished. A lot of places offer five days of respite care free to allow people to see if they would like living at the facility. In mom's case we signed up for a month of respite care. When respite care is done the resident has two choices, move out of the facility or move to another apartment within the facility. They can't stay in the respite care apartment because the facility needs it for the next person signing up for respite care.

And it will not be a hoot if Lisa wins lol.

No, I haven't hired another caregiver. I finally got the motion detector working, at least at my house, but need a second person to work it out between my mom's room and the office, so hope to get that done this coming week. The night people are planning to talk to the boss about hiring another night person, and if that works out, I may not have to hire anyone, or at least may be able to cut down the hours. Meanwhile, we slog along as usual.

Lisa win??? Bite your tongues, people!

I will wish the best for you that the motion detector works at your mom's facility because I know that will bring you some peace of mind.

I also hope they put on another night person at the facility.

And Lisa is not going to win. Unless she has pictures of Tom C doing something naughty with someone other than his wife.
