My Goals For 2009.

I used to do resolutions but had such a poor record about keeping them that I do goals instead of resolutions but I do make one resolution every year that I know I can keep. I resolve not to get pregnant in 2009.

My goals for 2009:

1. Since I'm not sure how much time Mom has left, try to make her life as enjoyable as possible.

2. Stay the course until all my fitness goals are met.

3. Complain less.

4. Go out of my comfort zone more often.

5. The one I've made every year for ten years, finish the book I am writing, with your support I made more progress on the book in 2008 then I ever have. This year I want to not only continue the process but finish it.

6. Find a winter home away from Portland.

7. Take a standup class.

8. Travel more.

9. Finish getting my minimal assets into the trust I set up

10. Date more. Hopefully meet the one. I know you can't schedule or put a time deadline on love, however, it would be a trip to put an engagement ring under next year's Christmas Tree, then
have a celebration on New Year's Eve!

Did you make any resolutions this year? Goals? If so what were they? Have any exciting plans for 2009? Inquiring minds want to know!

Goals? I don't need no steenkin' goals!

Well, yes, I do. I hope to get a life in '09. What will that entail? Beats me, but I'll give it a try somehow.

Other than finally replacing my now 18 y/o car (which is still running well, but promises too many repairs in the days to come), I can't think of any particular goals. There are a million & one things I should do to my house and yard, but that was a goal last year and I didn't accomplish any of it. Maybe this year? I'm going to give this goal thing some thought, and maybe I'll get back to you.

As to your goals, Bill, they are all worthy ones. I know you'll finish the book this year, and I have high hopes that you will accomplish them all, especially finding "the one".

Best wishes for all your goals, Bill. And for the New Year, no matter what it brings.

I don't make resolutions or goals - just try to make a few plans and take each day as it comes. I figure this life is all we get, so we'd better do it the best we can while it lasts.

(Gee, that's pretty philosophical.)

I like not getting pregnant. I think I will make that my resolution as well. Heh.

I can't wait to read your book.

Hi Pat

Lol re no steenkin goals.

I actually think with your volunteer work, the visits of your family, the visits to your mom, etc that you have a pretty full life.

What kind of car are you looking at?

Thanks for your encouragement re my goals.

Hello there Mary Z

I like it when you are philosophical.

Life should be one day at a time but I just can't operate without a to do list!

I hope neither of us get pregnant this year!

Hi, Bill. I should have mentioned that I also resolve not to get pregnant this year. Fat chance!

I think I'll end up buying a Honda Civic, but I haven't driven any cars yet. I don't think I'll get a new car, but I can't go very old, because if I have to have airbags, I want the "smart" ones that aren't as strong an explosive device aimed at a short person's face. They were mandated in Oct.'06, but it's hard to know when a car came off the line, so I'm limited to '07 or '08 models.

I really think I want a Prius, but I drive so little now that I can't justify spending that much money on a car. Unless, of course, I finally drive one and fall madly in love. {g}

Bill, great goals and I'm hoping you meet each of them and suspect you will, given your determination and the self-onfidence you've gained from meeting others.

Pat, have you taken a look at the RAV (maybe it's RAVE)? I've two friends who bought them and are absolutely delighted with quality, price, gas mileage and, especially, comfort.

Mary Z, I'm with you - at this point it's one day at a time and my goal is to maintain my sanity and, hopefully, emotional and physical health. Beyond that, planning has become a bit of a joke, so I'm also with Pat on the "no steenkin' goals" at the moment. (wry s>

And, yes, my one firm resolution is not to get pregnant!

Hi Pat

None of want to get pregnant!

Isn't a Prius a Hybrid? If you get a new one I think you get a tax credit on your return. I will look it up and get back to you on how much it would be. It also gets good gas mileage and would save you there, not to mention repairs.

Hi Dr

I'm glad we share one resolution!

I think maintaining sanity is an excellent goal.

I really don't plan either because with an elderly parent to care for plans kind of go out the window. But that doesn't stop me from either dreaming or setting goals!

Bill, yes, a Prius is a hybrid. A true hybrid, which somehow (I haven't figured out quite how) differs from some cars advertised as hybrids. New, the last time I checked, with tax and license, it would be around $30K, and with the small amount of distance driving I do, I can't justify spending that much on a car. Unless, as I mentioned, I fall madly in love. Then all bets are off.

The 2007 models are still bringing around $28K, so while a used car is fine with me, it's still too pricey.

I also saw that the tax credit has expired, so will watch to see if it reappears. They set a limit on how many cars could qualify for it, and Toyota has sold so many of the Prius that I think that one ran out early.

DR, do you mean the Toyota Rav4? The kids have an older version of that, with 4 wheel drive for their offroad excursions, and it's a good little SUV. But it is an SUV, and I want something smaller and maneuverable this time.

Bill, I agree with you need to-do lists, even if they don't often get done as scheduled. I now have a planner that allows me to put an arrow in the check box, indicating I've written it into next week's list (g).

Pat, I think the Rav is a Toyota, but there may be different versions? The ones my friend have are not all that big. A bit taller than a standard car, but very easy to get in and out of (important, since of them has back problems). I plan to see Ginny on the 13th and I'll ask her about hers.

Hi Pat

I think it was 60,000 cars but they increased it in a later amendment to the act.

I'm kind of hoping you fall madly in love with the Prius. I like the energy savings!

Hi Dr!

We don't need no schedule! Just a to do list.
