Women Drivers!

Before we talk about driving with the stronger sex here is a link that Mary Z provided yesterday. Go ahead, enter and try your luck!

Next up let's talk about the following article:

http://autos.aol.com/article/men-women-safer-drivers/

I'm not sure I'm ready to agree with the article. Are you? Among your friends and relatives who are the better drivers? I'm a better driver than most of my nieces. Slower maybe but better. But I am also a better driver than my nephew. Mom was a good driver when she drove, dad too but as he got older he got worse and you were safer with Mom. Without mentioning names there is a person that reads the blog that does well known u-turns at the drop of a hat. But rumor has it that she is still a darn good driver. I think I am going with the opening of the article, it depends on the person.

Who would you rather ride with, a man or a woman? Or do you care?

I think I've lost my crown as U-turn Queen, having hardly done any of them in the past few years. Otherwise, I am a very good and non-scary driver. Not too slow, not too fast (depending on your scale of what's too fast). Since I'm usually the driver now, I don't have much to compare. I'd prefer riding with my daughter at the wheel rather than her husband, who is a very impatient driver. She used to be a bit scary, though very good, but she has mellowed and doesn't try to make me nervous any more. {g}

Me? I'm hardly ever in a big hurry, so manage to stay out of everyone's way and don't try to compete with those zipping by me and changing lanes every second or two.

I don't care.

With that being said, since I was little, I haven't liked to ride with my dad, he drives the same now as he did then. Slow, and when you talk he drives slower, and he has been known to actually come to a complete stop in the middle of the road, parking lots or wherever he takes the notion. He can leave the turn signal on for hours. (yeah, that's just annoying) He has never been in an accident. But, he scares the living daylights out of me when he drives himself out of state. And even with no accidents, I would prefer to not ride with him. :)

So I think it is just the person.

Hi Pat

You will never lose your title as U-turn Queen. Some titles stick with you forever!

Too fast is more than ten miles over the speed limit. Or racing in a parking lot.

I hate the lane changers, they spin in and out of traffic then at the next light you are right next to them. Fools.

Hi Dona

It sounds like I would rather ride with you than your dad. Some people don't get into accidents they just cause them.

What my brother does that drives me crazy is when you talk to him while he is driving he turns his head and looks at you. Not keeping his eyes on the road.

I agree it is the person.

Mox-nix on male versus female. Both my parents were good drivers. Mom had a rather heavy foot, but that seems to be genetic among the females of the clan. Regardless, she was a very safe driver, as was Daddy.

Himself is a good driver and obeys the rules, but is very impatient with drivers below the speed limit, those who don't observe "proper" lane changing and the like. He tends to tailgate, on occasion, which drives me nuts and is the reason I do a lot of knitting, crocheting or looming on road trips or when we're in the RV -- my attention is on my hands, not the cars in front of or around us.

As a general rule, my comfort level is determined by the individual drivers, not their gender. I was very comfortable with Bill in Boulder, once I ascertained there was no ax in evidence. Equally comfortable with Deb and Rho. I think part of my comfort is derived with the familiarity of the driver with where we're going. Sudden lane changes, abrupt braking to check road signs, that sort of thing are not good for my comfort level. If I'm going someplace unfamiliar, I prefer to drive, since I can set my GPS and have advance warning of exits, turns and the like.

Hi DR

My sister has a heavy foot and it scares me.

I am with Himself about drivers driving below the speed limit but only if they are in the desginated fast lane.

I would be comfortable with you whether you were driving a semi or a car. Thank you for the nice compliment!
