It's Your Day On The Blog.

I've been updating you on my life all week so today we are doing a hybrid post, part update and part regular posting. I do want you to update me on your lives. What went on last week with you, your relatives, or your friends last week. What is on the agenda for next week for all of you. If you need to vent then this is the one of the most supportive places on the Internet to vent! If you have been following the blog for a while and haven't posted it would sure be wonderful to meet you!

Today I'm going out for breakfast with the guys, tomorrow night Mom & I are taking sister and her husband out for dinner for their twenty-eighth anniversary, Tuesday it is taking mom to a movie, and Wednesday is a night at Mom's. That is all that is on the agenda right now.

The Entertainment update. David, thank goodness, was finally eliminated from The Apprentice. This week on The Amazing Race nobody was eliminated is was the second of three non-elimination legs. Sadly, on Dancing With The Stars Rick & Cheryl were eliminated. Bristol and Kyle are much worse dancers than Rick and one of them should have been sent packing. Top Chef All Stars premieres on December 1.

Yesterday one of the articles I shared with you reported that hospitals were one of the worst places to be if you were trying to avoid a cold. Now it comes to light that the hospital is also one of the worst places to share you social security number:

http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2010/11/03/Most-unsafe-places-to-disclose-social/?icid=main%7Chtmlws-main-n%7Cdl6%7Csec1_lnk3%7C182554

The list really shocked me because most of us use a lot of places on the list.

Next up is a list of healthy foods. It is a good list too because I actually like most the things on the list.

http://www.thatsfit.com/2010/11/05/6-surprising-health-foods/?icid=main%7Chtmlws-main-n%7Cdl3%7Csec3_lnk2%7C182340

I think I will have a baked potato tonight.

The blog is now yours. Do what ever pleases you. Comment on today's articles. Share what is going on in your lives. Share what you have planned. Vent. Share joys. Ask me anything. Introduce yourselves. Today on the blog it is your day.

I am very, very careful about giving out social security numbers, but they just make you. Like I didn't want to give Michael's to his college, and they told me he couldn't get financial aid without it. I didn't want to put Danny's on his college applications, and some schools won't accept the application without it. It's very frustrating.

Glad to see David go, though I can't seem to fit APPRENTICE into my viewing except once in a while. I'm totally lost about DWTS, only remember I liked Jennifer Grey.

I agree with Mary's frustration. I really worry about all the places that have my SS number. There should be some other way to identify a person, maybe just using part of the number, or assigning a national ID number (except that would probably work out just the same as SS, sigh). If I can, I refuse to give it, but too many times I just have to cave in and do it.

I'm surprised to see iceberg lettuce on the healthy list. I've always considered it more or less nutritionless, but I like it in a salad in addition to other lettuces, as it has the most crunch. I've felt ditto about celery, so am surprised about that, too. I like all the foods mentioned except buttermilk.

I'm with the others on SSNs. I don't like giving it out, but banks and medical providers of almost any kind won't deal with you, unless you provide it. I'm sure banks and credit card companies use it to check your credit record, but why do hospitals and doctors need it? Are they checking your credit record, especially if you have insurance? It's no wonder identity theft has reached the levels it has, given the number of places that require your SSN. If they can identify your credit card account with just the last four numbers, why not the SSN last four numbers, as Pat said?

The food list surprised me, given a nutritionist told me several years ago iceberg lettuce and celery weren't much more than water, with little nutritional value. With the exception of buttermilk, I like the foods on the list and have always felt the potato got bad press.

Update - pretty much same-o-same-o, with pool, line dance (rehearsing for Christmas shows), editing. Hauled in the winter clothes, as temps dropped considerably. Hope to get summer stuff packed and out to the shed this week, once they're all laundered. Must locate Santa jacket for LD show.

I did see Dr. V about my shoulder (which is gradually improving) and talked with him about the hip, which - after reading a brief typed chronology, asking questions and manipulating the leg - he doesn't think is a hip issue, but a spinal issue. I'm to see one of his colleagues tomorrow, taking the chiro's x-rays of neck and hip, and see what he has to say. I doubt I'll learn much, beyond him wanting more x-rays and maybe MRIs. I then get to see my internist for my annual on Tuesday. Picked up the blood test results and they all look good (Yea). Given her nurse's instructions, after the bone scan, were to "take anti-inflammatories and learn to live with it, I'll be curious to see her reaction to what Dr. V found with the shoulder and whatever Dr. VP has to say about the hip/spine issue, since I opted to pursue those on my own, rather than accept their "suggestion."

I also hate to give out my SS number, but it seems when they want it they want it, or you don't get what you want...but you also may be getting something extra you didn't sign up for. It is terribly frustrating. My dad absolutely refused several times to give his right after my mom died when I was going with him to do almost everything, then I noticed he had it listed on his checks along with phone number too. Too funny.

I was glad David finally went home on Apprentice...I am anxious now to see what has went on for next week, I am assuming I have missed an episode?

I also thought lettuce and celery were like water...the article confused me but made me hungry for a potato with a Steak.

Good luck DR on all the upcoming new tests you may be subject to and I hope you find an answer soon. Glad you didn't take the previous suggestion sometimes you just have to go with your gut or what works for you.

Almost forgot to give my update. The Shankster is not completely well, but lots better with mostly just an annoying cough. I have completely gotten better with my leg/knee issue although it took a good week to re learn to walk, very strange. Doc said to wait a bit before the exercise class, as it will be like the first time and I need to be careful.

I also changed out winter clothes for summer shirts/shorts, really makes me miss my 3 bedroom house with closets in each so to not have to constantly be moving clothes for room. But after 7 years I feel like a pro and could live in an RV full time with NO Problem. Hint for anyone who wins the lotto to remember me. :)

Hi Mary

I'm also very careful about giving out my social security number but it is impossible not to give out at banks and doctors's office which were two on the list as being unsafe.

The FAF form college is checked against tax return information, therefore, the requirement of the social security number for financial aid.

It is frustrating.

Hi Pat

I think David was one of the most obnoxious people ever to be on a reality show. Grey should win DWTS although Max's partner whose name escapes my right now could give her a go.

I think using the last foud digits of your social security number would be a great way to avoid giving out the whole number.

I was surprised to see potatoes on the list. I'm hate buttermilk. So I am with you there.

Since DR is giving medical updates, I'll give a rather embarrassing one. My primary doc keeps wanting to reduce my thyroid dose, and every time she does, I feel more dragged out and droopy. So I went to a real endocrinologist for a second opinion, which it turned out I had to pay for, as Medicare no longer pays for consultations, they told me. New one on me!

As it turned out, it was pretty much wasted money, as the endo agreed with the primary, and he wants to cut my dose down even farther, too. He was very nice and refrained from calling me a crock, which I gave him permission to do, but he doesn't think the dragginess comes from lack of thyroid. So I'm back to my own second diagnosis, which is that it's mental. Everything else seems to be functioning and batteries of tests have been fine.

Maybe next I'll try a psychiatrist. {frown}

Dona, I'm so glad to hear the Shankster is better and that you're mobile again! I hear you on changing out clothes and big houses vs confined spaces. Fortunately, between the big house and this one, I spent over nine months in an RV. Difference being we spent the winter months in the RV in FL and our time here in the early spring. Still, it certainly helped the transition mindset. Thanks for the good wishes. I learned a long time ago to listen to my body, even if I'm sometimes slower to do so than is smart.

Pat, if you decide to try another route, I recommend a psychotherapist, rather than a psychiatrist, based on personal experience. I've found the first to be much more human and willing to listen and cooperate, rather than prescribe pills (wry s).

Hi DR

I think none of us like to giving out our ss numbers but we just don't know how to avoid it.

I never ate a lot of iceberg lettuce so I didn't know if it was good or bad. I am with you about the potato getting bad press.

It pleases me that you were able to get in the pool and some line dancing.

It is good news that you shoulder is improving. I'm not sure I'm happy it is a spinal issue instead of a hip issue, I'd be happier it it was any issue. Will root for a good report on your annual. Great news re the blood test. Keep us abreats on what DR V says and finds out.

Hi Dona

It looks like we are all in the same boat with our ss numbers. That is funny that your dad had the ss number on his checks, probably more dangerous there than giving it out to the places he refused.

You are on schedule with the Apprentice. David just now got eliminated so next week is the first one since he went home.

Now I am hungry for a steak and a baked potato, it has been ages since I had that.

Hi DR

I'm sorry The Shankster isn't completely well but am glad he has improved.

I am tickled that you are completely better with the leg issue but it doesn't surprise me it took you a while to learn how to walk. Mind-body coordination if not used goes by the wayside.

I never worry about what is summer vs winter clothes so I keep them in my closets all year round!

And the previous message should have started out Hi Dona instead of Hi DR.

Hi Pat

It isn't embarrassing even if it is mental which I wonder about. You have symptoms so part of me thinks it is real and not mental. I also wonder if there is another drug you are taking that isn't thyroid related that could be causing it.

If you go the alternative route I like DR's suggestion of a pyschotherapist.

DR and Bill, I was kidding about the psychiatrist. Not anxious to go to either a shrink or a therapist. And definitely against taking meds for depression. I function, just mostly without enthusiasm, so to me, meds would be overkill.

Hi Pat

I knew you were joking but I think we just gave some advise for lurkers that might be going through the same thing.
