A Stressful Update

The week ahead: Stress test tomorrow. Follow-up appointment on Friday. Please wish me luck and send prayers, good and positive vibes for good results, good enough that I don't need an angiogram. Also on the agenda is cleaning house. A day or two with Mom. I am also getting up to speed enough that I can go back to writing. Getting a book to read during the three hour appointment at the stress test is also on the agenda.

The week behind. Completed two day boring accounting seminar. Got my Christmas shopping done. A gift card for sister. A gift card for brother-in-law. Really nice sleepwear for Mom. The gift from heaven that I do every year for Mom. The Chanel #5 perfume, that a friend that writes like dad signs a card, and a neighbor brings over when Mom isn't home and sticks under the tree. Two acts of kindness last week. The first day at the seminar when I came out after the seminar, a guy couldn't start his car. I had jumper cables so I started the car for him. Then Friday when I was doing my grocery shopping the elderly in front of me in line, looked at what I had put on the checkout stand ramp. She said "that reminds me I forgot to get bread." I gave her mine. Also last week I completed two J.A.. Jance Ali Reynolds books.

Entertainment Update. Annoying Michael V. won Top Chef. They had to do four dishes. First one was a dish that reminded them of their childhood. The reason for that dish? Top Chef brought in the mothers of the final contestants. The second dish they did was a dish they had to create from a mystery box of ingredients. For the third dish they could do anything they wanted. The last dish was a desert. I actually thought Bryan won the night but he finished second. Kevin was third. They must have given Michael the Top Chef title for what he has done all season instead of what he did final night. I have to admit, however, he was the most gracious he has been all season when they named him the winner. I loved seeing the mothers of the contestants. On The Amazing Race the young dating couple finished first and took home the million dollar prize. The annoying brothers finished second. My favorites, the interracial couple, finished third. It was an interesting that the Amazing Race finished in the city that Top Chef started, Las Vegas. The teams on the Amazing Race had to do among other things count out a million dollar in chips from a pile of different valued chips and then they had to scale down the side of the Mandalay Bay Casino. I'd have fun counting the million dollars in chips but no thank you going down the side of a casino that high!

There may or may not be a post tomorrow. The stress test is at 9 AM, meaning I have to leave her at 8:30. I also have to fix a peanut butter sandwich before I leave. For some reason they want you to eat something fatty during the test or while waiting for the test. My sister has given me strong orders that she is taking me. That I will not go alone. Bless her heart.

That is my Update. Now tell me yours. Update me on your life and your relatives. Also tell me if you would like to scale down about a thirty story casino or count a million dollar in chips. And tell me what was the favorite food dish that your Mom made for you when you were young. My Mom made a special Swiss steak and with chocolate chip cookies for desert. There was also ham and scalloped potatoes.

Your turn. The blog is now yours.

First, here come lots of good vibes for a great stress test. And good on you for doing two acts of kindness last week. Keep up the good work!

I was also annoyed that Michael won, though I rather expected he would. And it was nice to see him gracious for the first time. Easy when you're the winner, so he should clean up the rest of his act. I pity their mom having to deal with the sibling rivalry, especially from Michael.

I'd count a million in chips, but I wouldn't rappel down that building for even a million bucks. Probably {g}. I also wouldn't eat disgusting things, so I could never be a contestant on those shows.

My mom was not a memorable cook, though she provided perfectly edible meals daily, and deserves a lot of credit for that. One slightly unusual one I remember she did that I always liked was salmon croquettes. I should have gotten the recipe when she still remembered it.

Hi Pat

Thanks for the good vibes! The acts of kindness just kind of presented themselves. The battery charghing thing was a good one because it was 14 degrees.

It had to be hard on the Mother. I noticed after the announcement she went to Byran first. Micheale is the youngest so maybe that is why he wants so hard to beat his brother.

I might eat disgusting things but I sure in the heck am not going down that building!

Salmon croquettes sound really good!

Lots of good vibes and prayers coming your way for tomorrow. I am sure you will do just fine. Positive thinking, you know! And I am happy your Sis is going along.

Glad to hear you got through the seminar awake. And good for you getting your shopping done. I still think it is so special of you getting the gift from Heaven each year. There is a woman somewhere that is waiting for you. One question though, does your mother use each bottle up every year, or does she have several unused bottles stacked away?

Also, great to hear you are still doing acts of kindness...I can't imagine you doing anything else. The Shankster did a few himself in the last couple of weeks. He gets very big hearted this time of year, even though his pockets aren't as big. He gave the money in our pockets to some folks for the troops that were outside the store and then we had to leave the store empty handed because he gave all we had to them, Which was ok.

I wasn't happy with the outcome of Top Chef or Amazing Race either, but I am sure I'll watch again next time.

My mom made a lot of things I liked. She made a killer Peach Cobbler and would bake Pork Chops with Campbells Cream of Chicken soup as a gravy on them. Very Yummy.

Good Luck tomorrow.

I hadn't thought about the salmon croquettes for years until you asked that question. I just Googled, and yes, there are lots of recipes. Seems most people fry them, and I saw at least one recipe for baked. Mom baked them in little ramekin dishes, but they might be better without the dish, as they'd get more crispy all over. Must try these myself one day...

Bill, extra prayers for the stress test tomorrow, continuing until you get the results. Good job on the Christmas shopping and great job on the acts of kindness.

Week here didn't go as planned. The Tuesday line dance show and Wednesday class were cancelled, as our leader was down with a bug. She's still down, so the two shows next week are also cancelled. Anyone want a new red velour Santa jacket, trimmed with white tinsel? I did get in extra editorial hours and a shopping trip I otherwise wouldn't have indulged in, searching for a really warm coat, given our unseasonable cold, which is predicted to continue. Have started on Chritsmas decorating, which will be minimalistic, since I can't put the tree up because I didn't get the recliners sold.

I could count chips, but scaling the casino is out -- I can barely scale a six foot ladder, with my thing about heights. Favorite meal... I really don't remember a particular. Maybe beef roast with mashed potatoes and hot rolls.

Bill, can I put in a plug (if not, just delete it from the msg, okay?) If you like unique and natural beauty and gorgeous photography, please visit a long-time friend's brand new website store at http//brighthawk.esty.com. Maryanne makes beautiful art. I have one of her necklaces she sent for my birthday and it's gorgeous. She just opened today and I was her first customer, getting the agate pendant wrapped in copper which I've lusted for since she sent me a photo of it several weeks ago. She collects, tumbles, polishes and assembles all the stones she uses. Her prices are very reasonable and the workmanship excellent.

Hi Dona

Thanks for the vibes, prayers, and good luck!

Mom uses most of the perfume. I don't get a really big bottle, it is pretty darn expensive now. My sister also uses it so she can share it with her.

I would really like to meet The Shankster, he just sounds like my kind of man. You and he are the type that deserve to and should win the lottery.

Top Chef was boring this year and The Amazing Race was also at times but I will be stuck in front of the TV set the next time they come on

Pork Chops, I love them and the way your Mom did them sounds absolutely intirguing.

Hi Pat

I'm glad I jogged your memory!!

I was kind of curious about the salmon croquettes so I Googled them too. They actually look easy to fix and baked would probably be better for you than fried.

Hi DR

Thanks for the extra prayers!!

Do are weeks every go as planned?

That is kind of sad the the show and dance were cancelled. However, better cancelled than everyone coming down with the same thing you leader has. I hope she gets well soon!

I'm sending good vibes that the recliners sell soon! Seems like they would be a good Christmas gift for someone.

Beef roast with mashed potatoes and hot rolls sounds purely delightful to me.

I am not going to delete it, I will put it as a link in the next blog post. She does beautiful work and is a very talented person.

Bill, good job on the link. I never thought of that.

Dona, I spaced on comment on the Shankster's actions -- actually, I had a long message and it got deleted somehow, when the web page expired. How wonderful that he cares so much about other people. He's definitely a "keeper." Bill's right -- you deserve to win the lottery. I'd bet even money you'd do a lot of good with the proceeds.

Yes, Bill, the cancellation of the shows was a disappointment, mostly because we've found in the past the folks really enjoy the entertainment and break from routine. We'd already agreed that, due to the swine flu and other issues, we wouldn't, as we normally do, go out among the crowd after the show and hug the patients and chat with them, in the interest of nobody sharing "bugs." I was the only exception (assuming I was totally healthy), going among them as Santa and passing out candy canes and green spearment wrapped candies. Uh... anybody want a couple hundred candy canes and spearmint candies, to go with the Santa suit? (wry s). From a selfish standpoint, the shows were going to be my Christmas gifts to others and my celebration of the season. More personal than the gifts and toys I take to the Mission anda the TR Christmas drive.

Hi Dr

Of course the folks enjoy the entertainment and I am betting they are as disappointed as you are in the cancellation. Maybe you can do a post holiday visit and use the costumes then! Call it Christmas in January.

It really is sad that it was cancelled. Off to the stress test.

I just tried looking at Brighthawk's site, and found the URL you listed here doesn't work. Here's one that does:
