First Work Week Update

I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to to dance better than myself." -- Mikhail Baryshnikov

Update Day on the blog. I love it for two reasons. You do all the work and I get to find out what is going on in your life.

Last week. Super Bowl Party and one night at Mom's. Three days of work. Two trips during my lunch hours on a couple of days to Mom's to take care of some things for her. I shopped for some stuff Mom needed one night and delivered it the next day. The other time I had to drop by some prescriptions. We had a really nice dinner out with cousin Belva, her husband Don, my sister and her husband, mom, and I. They are so fun to be around. I took Mom shopping and to lunch yesterday. There were also the normal errands, dry cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, haircut, etc.

On the work agenda it is really an adjustment to get back into the swing of things. I am surprised how much I remember from last year and the kind of things I remember. The people at work or so darn nice. The first day I arrived the receptionist greeted me with a hug. She has been promoted to office administrator and is about two months pregnant. At my desk on the chalkboard was a huge "welcome back." If I remember my camera will take a picture of it. The bosses have been very nice. And the work seems a little easier than last year. I hope it continues to go well.

On the agenda this week is mostly work. The good thing is my family and friends have pitched in to support me. The caregiver offered to do one more night a week for the next couple of months and my sister volunteered to do all other nights. What a relief for me. So what I decided to do is take Mom to lunch on Saturday's and Sunday's and do errands for her those days. Other than work is to finish cleaning the house, set my clothes out for the week, pack my lunches for the week, finish a work assignment for the guys that bought my business, and finish my two tax returns.

Entertainment update. This is the week on Jeopardy that the computer named Watson takes on Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Dancing With The Stars cast will be announced during The Bachelor on February 28 and season 12 will premiere on Monday March 21. The Amazing Race Unfinished Business appears next Sunday, February 20. I haven't really gotten into Top Chef this season. The contestants are all from previous seasons and some of them were the most annoying ones. I'm kind of rooting for Angelo to win and I have no reason why since he was annoying last season but he seems to have toned it down. They eliminated Fabio on the week's show. A lesson, don't cook anything you can't pronounce, if you can't pronounce burger get help.

The blog is now yours. Confess your sins. Vent. Share stories, good or bad. Tell me about last week and what is on the agenda for the next week. Need prayers or good thoughts, fire away. Looking forward to your responses.

PS

I don't know if I ever updated the group on my IRS issues. They were solved and I was extremely happy with the result.

We have finally climbed out of our two weeks of snow/ice during the Super Bowl. In the '70s for the next week. Yay!

Hi Connie

It is about time. I actually follow your weather everyday due to my niece living there!

You seem to have the bases covered nicely for tax season. I do hope it all works out for you and that it can actually be enjoyable.

Nothing exciting to report from here. Next week, I will again work on the canvassing board for our local election. I don't have high hopes for the election itself. I suspect it'll be more of the same and I want to see some fresh blood and new ideas, plus a little more intelligence in our small city.

As for tv, I wish all these shows wouldn't bring back previous contestants. SURVIVOR is doing it (again). TOP CHEF is better when it's new people, and so is RACE. I've seen all I need to of the previous contestants and I lose interest when it's them all over again.

Another busy week for you. So glad to hear the others are pitching in - I remember last year was a bit of a nightmare, you trying to juggle everything. Sending good thoughts everything works as planned.

Connie, glad to hear you're out of the nasty weather and looking forward to better temps.

Standard week of the pool, line dance, editorial work. Attended a seminar on dry eye (which I occasionally endure) and blepharitis (which often causes it, unbeknown to me).Very informative and helpful and time well spent. Had my PT massage, which I always enjoy, even when it hurts. Yesterday we went to the Senior Valentine Ball. This is sponsored by Senior Action, to help Mauldin High School raise money for their community charity of the year. SA promotes it and sells tickets and the SA band plays for an hour, a DJ donates an hour's time. The HS kids do all the rest and they are terrific. Those in ROTC looked quite spiffy in their uniforms. The women were all presented with silk flower corsages The kids not only greet, service the buffet table, clear tables, but the guys partner the single ladies for dancing. There was a short lesson on the swing step, where the guys really stepped in. Then a short lesson on line dance, which filled the floor. There were about fifteen or twenty from my LD group and we danced to the DJ and were joined by kids and some adults, who wanted to try to follow. Then, when the band began, our group moved over to a little side area, to clear the floor. Well... guess where the kids were (g). When the band played "New York, New York," the conductor invited the line dancers to take the floor and boy were we joined by a crowd. As near as I could tell, there were about 70 people up with us, trying to learn the dance by following. We'd (class) all agreed to help, if anyone joined us while dancing, but there weren't enough of us to spread out and keep up. They served a huge buffet. Crowned the oldest woman there the 2011 Sweetheart, complete with crown and long stemmed roses. She was 94 and moving under her own steam. A good time was had by all and I wish folks who say our kids are going to the dogs could have seen these HS students in action. Last year, they had 78 guests. This year, they sold 248 tickets. They plan to do it next year. They may need a larger space!

Hi Pat

I don't know if tax season can every be defined as enjoyable but I will be elated with easy survivial.

I always admire you for working elections. I think I am going to start doing that. It is important that people vote and you are accomodating them doing just that.

I completely agree with you that these shows are better with new blood instead of tired blood.

Hi DR

Last year wasn't bad but two years ago before sister moved up it was a nightmare.

Glad the seminar was worthwhile and you learned a lot. I am also glad you got your massage in. The Senior Valentine Ball sounds both fun and rewarding. Anything that causes different generations to spend time together is good by me. I wish I would have been there to see the New York New York line dance!

PS: I forgot to say how much I'm looking forward to the JEOPARDY contest against the machine. So far, I'm not rooting for either side... just want to see how it goes.

Hi Pat

I'm looking forward it to but I am rooting for Brad. Just don't want a computer to win and Jennings bugged me.
