I'm really not sure what punishment would be tough enough for scammers. I've seen some of the foreign lottery scams in my own emails, altho not the one about the coke lottery.
What a heart warming story about the woman who got off the streets and is helping others do the same. It doesn't sound like much has changed from thirty-plus years ago, when I worked with the police assoc in Golden Gloves and briefly dated an undercover cop. The pimps usually went free, usually the "users" got a slap on the wrist and the girls did the time and paid the price. And a lot of those girls were teenage runaways, looking for love and affection and some sense of belonging or family or someone who cared about them. Girls (and sometimes boys) who left home and had no place to go, many as young as 13 or 14.

Punishment for anyone that scams the elderly would be a very slow death where they suffer every minute. Regular scammers death by firing squad.
Not much has changed. The girls do the time for everyone. I used to the tax returns for a group of exotic dancers while some where pretty bright women working their way through law school or college the bulk of them were young girls that got pregnant very young, the dropped out of school, and the husband/father disappeared. The only way the could make a decent living without an education was to take their clothes off. Which usually lead to drugs etc. I think the pimps need to go to jail and the Johns need to be outed.
