From Animals To Health.

"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." Plato

Let's start the day out with an unusual animal story:

Do you ever wonder how doctors treat themselves if the contract a serious disease. Would they choose normal treatments are riskier ones?

Speaking of health news, an amazing discovery:

Looking forward to your responses.

So interesting about the deer guarding the nesting goose! Wouldn't you love to get inside his head and know why?

I certainly agree with whoever said that doctors should present all options, including dangers, to a patient and let the patient decide.

I had heard of the possible malaria-fighting fungus. What a great thing! It won't stop the disease entirely, but it sure sounds like a giant step forward.

Love the story about the deer and the goose. We seem to be seeing more and more of this kind of thing (different species protecting or aiding other. Perhaps homo sapien could take a few lessons?

Yes, I think doctors should present all options and let the patient decide, so long as the doctor can clearly identify the differences between the treatments offered or available. I imagine it has to be difficult for a doctor to not let his/her personal or subjective issues get in the way. Still, I'd want to know all my options and all the side effects and possible long term effects and then make an informed decision.

Delighted to see the potential of a malaria-fighting fungus. Himself had malaria twice, while working in Africa. Encephalitic malaria, I think it's called. If it doesn't kill you, it doesn't have the recurring symptoms. It does, however, have long term and permanent side effects. While they did what they could with screening at the camp and netting and such, on both occasions, he was bitten while eating at a restaurant in Djamina, where there are no such things as screens on windows and the like. Ergo, yes, I'd really like to see something that would reduce the cases of malaria world wide.

Hi Pat

I would love to know why the Deer was guarding the next. We had a story here a couple of years ago about two geese one was run over and killed on a bridge. The other goose would not leave her. It stopped traffic. I guess geese mate for life and the male guess was not going to leave his other. They eventually shot her with a tranquilzer gun and released her in a park.

Doctors not only should give options, they should code them in a way that insurance companies will pay for them.

I respect people that give up their time for the betterment of everyone especially medical discoveries.

Hi DR

One of the reasons I shared the maleria story was I remembered Himself contacting it and the worries and troubles that went with it.

We are hearing a lot more of animal stories that are cross species. Maybe someone is telling us we should follow the animals and get along besides our differences. Instead of a child should lead us it is an animal should lead us.

I'm with you, I'd want to know all my options and I actually think a doctor has the obligation to tell us.
