Art, Dating, Dresses, & Driving.

First up this is for Pat. Here is a link to where you can see my friend Nancie's art work. This was a show she had at a salon. All the paintings on the bottom row are hers.

Today starts three days at Mom's. Saturday will be a new dawn for me because things will go back to normal.

Talk about an idiotic move by a dating site:

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/06/20/beauties-only-dating-site-sparks-outrage-by-dumping-30000-ugly-people/?icid=main%7Chp-laptop%7Cdl2%7Csec3_lnk3%7C216475

What is beautiful anyhow? We all have a different idea of it. Who left it up to them to determine what I think is beautiful?

How valuable are the dresses that you own? Here one I can't really afford to buy as a gift:

I found the following article interesting:

It seems like the ban on driving doesn't even follow their own religious teachings.

Comment Away.

PRESIDENTS

Yesterday's president was Dwight D. Eisenhower. Today's president was quoted as saying, "My country owes me no debt. It gave me, as it gives every boy and girl, a chance. I am indebted to my country beyond any human power to repay." Born in 1874 and died in 1964. He didn't take a salary as president, one of two not to do so. During WWI he was head of The American Relief Administration. When you think of the word damn and the number 31 you can answer the question, Which President Am I?

I really like your Nancie's paintings - but then that's the sort of stuff I do. 8^)

I like Nancie's art and am particularly drawn to the last one in the row. Looks like her daughter is also a talented lady. How great that part of the proceeds go to help children at risk.

The dating site is idiocy at its best. One man's trash is another man's treasure may not be a good comparison, but I agree - who's decide what anyone else considers beautiful. And if people are selecting dating partners based on someone's subjective determination of "beauty," they deserve whomever they get.

Since I own no dresses, other than a couple gown left over from Eastern Star days, I'm not in the running (g). The money for these movie dresses seems obscene, particularly since it doesn't appear the funds are going to charity.

Like you, I found the last article interesting, not only because of the driving ban. If I read it correctly and the statements are factual, early Muslim women were given a great deal of independence and encouraged to be educated and productive members of society as individuals. This is certainly 180 degrees from the way they're treated today, where they can't divorce, are often denied education and frequently not allowed to leave their homes with suitable male escorts, preferably husbands. All of this appears to go directly against the early teachings of Islam. I wonder who picks and chooses which dictates to follow? I fully agree they need their entire population working together for the future. Will it happen? Not unless there's a groundswell against the radical extremists, I suspect.

Way cool, Bill. I like Nancie's stuff. But then I'm kind of a sucker for abstract art anyway. Well, a lot of it. {s}

Hope your three days at Mom's are pleasant and uneventful ones.

I think I'd stay away from a website called "Beautiful People" in any case.

I had heard about Marilyn Monroe's dress. I find these prices amazing, but then, a lot of art and memorabilia prices seem amazing to me. I do sort of wonder who buys these things and what do they do with them.

I had heard about the Saudi women driving. They are very brave. I also find the different interpretations of the Koran interesting. This author says Islam gives women freedom, but the restrictions placed on them in Saudi Arabia are supposed to be "Islamic". Personally, I find them barbaric, and I wish the women all the luck in the world in changing them.

Hi DR

Nancie is really a very nice and accomplished person. Her daughter is a talented photographer and she is really charitable.

I completely agree with about the dating site. I wouldn't want to date someone that went to a beautiful dating site.

4 Millions is obscene for a dress.

I was surprised at what was said about early Muslim women. Seems like they took a step backward. I would imagine the political leaders pick the rules.

Hi Pat

I didn't even Nancie's stuff was abstract, I just knew I liked it.

I'm with about staying away from a beautiful dating site. I meet enough shallow people as it is.

If I had 4 mill I would spend it all on a dress.

The rules in Saudi Arabia are
barbaric, and like you I wish the women all the luck in the world in changing them.
