A Cut Above

The good story of the week:

http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2010/03/with_every_snip_and_curl_portl.html

Next up is the day's discussion topic.Today's discussion is about Catholic Priests and whether or not they should be required to live a life of celibacy. According to the following article the Catholic Church is having a difficult time finding priests. Applications for the priesthood are down sixty percent and they attribute it to the celibacy requirement. The reason for the requirement is the church in the early times imposed it because they wanted the priests to serve only one master, God. Is it time for a change? Read why one preist retired:

Hope this day brings you nothing but joy and puts you a cut above the rest in your world!

Nice story about the hairdressers. Of course it wouldn't be necessary if we had REAL healthcare reform.

In my atheistic view, of course priests should not be required to be celibate. The only reason for the requirement in the first place was that they were endowing their mistresses with too much of the churches' wealth. What this requirement has wrought in the Catholic Church is in the news all the time lately, and the lack of priest candidates contributes to the bad eggs being merely slapped on the wrist, not fired or excommunicated.

Let priests live normal lives, and while we're at it, let's tax the churches on everything except the church itself, the priest/minister's residence, and charitable works.

Hi Pat

The heatlh care reform could have been better but the part that I am really happy with is 90 days after it goes into law people with pre-existing conditions can get coverage.

I also think priests shoudn't have to take a vow of celibacy. Interest point that the shortage allows for the bad preists to stay and they don't punish them enough.

I completely agree that churches should be taxed!

Pat, as a fellow atheist, I can only say, "AMEN"!

About the healthcare bill. I think it's only children with pre-existing conditions that get covered right away. Some things go into effect in 2014, some in 2018. They will be phasing out the "doughnut hole" for Medicare Rx's, but the first year, it'll only be a $250 reimbursement. From discussions I heard, nobody is totally sure what is going to happen when, and the lawsuits are beginning already.

What a country!

Hi Mary Z & Pat

Come on now fess up. You are really the same person masquarading as two people. Or at minimum you were twins separated at birth.

As to the health care, better something than nothing, and better covering kids with preexisting conditions then nobody.
