QUOTES
Loretta Young authored yesterday's quote. "If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain." was said by an actress, singer, writer, multi-instrumentalist, philanthropist, and known for two other things. She is still alive and still famous. She was born in 1946. She, Jane, and Lily were well known one year for working from NINE TO FIVE. She is one of the most successful female country artists, garnering the title of "The Queen of Country Music," with 25 number-one singles. and a record forty-one top-10 country albums. She has the distinction of having performed on a top-five country hit in each of the last five decades and is, along with Reba McEntire, one of the only two country artists having had No. 1 singles in each of four consecutive decades. She was one of twelve children. Do you know where THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS is? If you do you can tell me who authored today's quote.

I saw the cop story on tv. Amazing he wasn't badly injured. Even more amazing that he pursued and caught the miscreant. {g}
On the second story, definitely bad journalism. Whoever edited the little boy's comment, whether it was the reporter or some honcho back at the studio, should be summarily fired.
Thanks to DR for depressing me even further about our representatives. That list of taxes would choke a horse, let alone a taxpayer.
Great story on the cop. Both quick thinking and brave and determined to do his job.
The second article doesn't even qualify as journalism. Call it media spin, propoganda, sensationalism, but do not call it journalism. It reminds me of the client who, when asked to give an interview on his book about infiltrating EarthFirst! and the road blocks he ran into with ATF, DEA and other agencies received this response from the "journalist." *My job is not to report the news or your words, but to influence public opinion." Aargh! Journalism is the factual reporting of Who,What,When,Where, Why, without slanting the report with opinion or analysis. The latter two are for editorial writers and commentators.
Pat, I didn't mean to depress you. However, I shared the article with Bill because I thought it was extremely well-written and also because I think it made salient points about where the responsibility lies for much of our current situation. Yes, we elected these people, but we did so based on their promises and premises and, to date, no one is living up to those, from either party, at any level. This country does have a provision for recalling any elected official. Maybe we ought to be using it.
Hi Pat
I was surprised he wasn't injured also. He is definitely dedicated.
I also agree with you on the second story, the person responsible of editing the comments should not only be fired but should be banned forever from any journalistic position.
The last article maybe was a little depressing but it was also right on and well written. So few. All from rich backgrounds make the laws. Nit fair.
Bill
Hi DR
The cop was my kind of public servant.
So many people confuse what journalism really easy. The lump columnist and reporters together.
Columnist give their opinions about a story or event. What they write isn't fact, it is their opinion. Reporters are to report on the story, report the facts, and not slide into giving an opinion about the story. Authors can do either but they need to say upfront what is true and what is false.
I used your story because I liked it. I didn't agree with all of it but it made me think. That is what a columnist is supposed to do.
Bill
