A Day Off

I'm taking a day off from my blog to regenerate my creative energies. I'm accumulating subjects to write about. Not in any order but one day we may talk about things you enjoy and things you miss. On another day we may talk about why parents would put their talented female basketball playing daughter under the private direction of a coach that was a known sex offender and the only reason he wasn't in jail is when the offense came to light the statue of limitations had expired. Then there was the recent review of the Portland Police department mostly positive but also some troubling stuff in the report. There may also will be some talk of taking care of elderly parents and how the stress of the bad economy puts more pressure on both the elderly parent and the caregiver. Of course the finals of Top Chef is this week. I also plan on getting back into The Amazing Race! And I might post the wonderful story that Ellen gave us a link to last week. And there is always update day!

But for today my blog and I are going through a minor separation. What are you plans for today? Have any ideas for subjects? I'm open for suggestions.

Good for you for taking a day off. You deserve it. Can't at the moment think of any good subjects you haven't mentioned... well, there's always "OctoMom". That should generate some heat.

My plan for today is to finish off the local election. We go to work at 1 p.m., break for dinner, and come back to do any last-minute ballots. Usually out by 9. It has been kind of a struggle this year. Everybody seems nervous for some reason. This last day, by tradition, we all wear red, white, and blue. I don't have much red in my closet, but I have one very bright red shirt that I seem to haul out only for this required day every couple of years. Layered with a white shirt and with navy blue pants, I think I'm in business.

Tomorrow, I look forward to a day off, but I have to get onto getting my mother established with a new doctor since Hospice discharged her. All that time, with nurses visiting all the time, she had no real problems. Now suddenly she's developed a rash that must be seen to. Before I go to work, I'll dig out some cortisone ointment that I know is lurking here somewhere to hold us over until we get the insurance/doctor thing worked out. So with any luck the real day off will happen Thursday.

Whatever, you enjoy your day off. As much as you can. I assume you have to work and it's just a day off blogging.

I hope you enjoy your day off from blogging also. I look forward to your blog every day so it doesn't matter to me what you write....as long as you keep doing it. :)
You always seem to have a lot of different news to report and have an opinion on, so I am ready for whatever. Just Go for it, I say!
I do hope all is well with you and hope the job is not getting you down too much.
Happy Tuesday

Hi Pat

You assume correctly, just a day off of blogging. I just now got home because after work I had to take mom to the doctor and then go the pharmacy to pickup her drugs. She picked up the virus I had.

The Octomom would definitely be an interesting discussion!

Wow you are working way into the evening what is the election for?
Everybody everywwhere is nervous! The economy?

I think you would look great in red!

Your day off tomorrow doesn't seem like a day off! What a worry with your mom. Not only a worry but extremely time consuming dealing with doctors, nurses, insurance companies. You have my empathy.

I hope Thursday is a day to relax for you!

Hi Dona

Happy Tuesday to you too!

Thank for the nice message and I'm really blown away that you visit my blog everyday. It just surprises me and warms me. I love it when you post!

The good thing about the job is the people there are very nice and it will eventually end!

Bill, the election is for City Council and School Board and a couple of other city jobs. It was a nightmare day. We got to work at 1:00 p.m., were finished with what they had ready for us by about 3:30. The verifying system they use was super-slow today, so we sat around waiting for verified envelopes until about 6:00, went to dinner, came back at 7:00 and sat around some more. They kept saying they'd pull the plug at 8, but they didn't. At around 9, the final ballots finally got to us and we worked until 11. So they're paying us for about 5 hours we didn't work at all. I'd much rather be working than just sitting around, and the whole group felt the same way. But we went really fast and got all the votes done and counted, so at least we don't have to go back for stragglers.

Nothing they were nervous about transpired, which is always the case. They have a runoff in April, and I may decline to serve unless they promise to be more organized.

So sorry your mom picked up your virus. Your worst fear, I'm sure, when you have one. I hope she gets better soonest. I dropped by Las Casitas with some cortisone ointment before work, and while I didn't look, they say my mom's rash is improving, so that's good. Off to bed now.

Hi Pat

I'm surprised they have the elections now instead of November. Sorry it was a nightmare day, you have been so busy lately you deserve some time off. I'm with you re being busy vs sitting around.

I'm glad nothing transpired about what everyone was nervous about!

rash is improving, so that's good. Off to bed now.

Mom is still struggling a bit but she should get well, I hope. Hope your mom keeps improving!
