Pat you were right, Winslet went into the best actress category. Redwhistle it looks like DEFIANCE got shut out but then maybe I was wrong about it qualifying this year.

May this be an Oscar Nominated day for all of you!

Well, again I haven't seen enough of the films to say who I think should win anything. Of the ones I have seen, the nominations are quite sensible. I haven't seen FROST/NIXON, but I'd love to see Frank Langella get an Oscar. I'm afraid he's a longshot, though. I did see THE VISITOR, and liked it a lot, so Richard Jenkins would be a nice come-from-behind choice, too.

Nice photos. Your mom looks great, not 93 at all. And so do you. Er, not that you're 93, but you're lookin' good for wherever you are. [G]

Hi Pat

I am going to make an effort to see all the nominated films by Oscar night. Langella would be a great pick as would Jenkins.

Thanks for the comments on my Mom and my picture. Mom doesn't look 93, me I look pretty young for 90 too.

Well Bill I like YOUR nominations the best - LOL! Your mum (sorry Mom) looks just great, as do you.

As to the "other" nominations - I haven't seen any of the films either. Althugh I hear what you all have to say about Frank Langella getting an oscar, as one of the UK film critics said - it IS a two-handed film and it would be a shame if Frank Langella got the oscar and Martin Sheen (who was not even nominated) got left out. Martin Sheen is apparently going around ruefully saying he was "the other actor" in Frost/Nixon.

Although I think Kate Winslett is a good actress, I'm not sure either of her films are the best.

Haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire but it would be fantastic if it won an oscar - I hear it's a great movie - and British of course ;-)

Hi Sian!

Hope the new kitty is adjusting!

Thanks for the nice comments about the pictures.

One of my favorite films this year was a British film. The extremely intense THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS. Another of my favorite films this year was a French film, TELL NO ONE.

Martin Sheen is a really good actor and deserves some publicity. I like Winslett too but there were other performances better than hers this year.

I will report in on what I think is the best film after I've seen them all. I do like indie filmd to do well so am rooting for SLUMDOG
