Rich Stories.

Off to Mom's today after some refreshing days off.

None of us like texting and driving. Do you think the following commercial will have an impact on preventing texting?

From a rich commercial to a rich story:

And now ending with a feel good story:

Comment Away

Wendy Wasserstein authored yesterday's quote. Today's quote comes from a famous actress known for salty quotes. "There are no good girls gone wrong - just bad girls found out." She was born in 1893 and died in 1980. Her father was a prizefighter known as "Battlin' Jack West" who later worked as a "special policeman" and then as a private investigator who ran his own agency. Her mother was a former corset and fashion model. The family was Protestant, although by some accounts her mother was Jewish. She started appearing in amateur shows at the age of seven. She was prosecuted on morals charges and was sentenced to ten days for "corrupting the morals of youth." While incarcerated on Welfare Island (now known as Roosevelt Island), she dined with the warden and his wife and told reporters that she wore her silk underpants while serving time. She served eight days with two days off for good behavior. In her first scene in the movies (a very small role) she played a hat check girl that someone says to her, "Goodness, what beautiful diamonds." She replies, "Goodness had nothing to do with it, dearie." (she had rewritten the line). Reflecting on the overall result of her rewritten scenes, the famous George Raft is said to have remarked, "She stole everything but the cameras." By 1935, she was the second-highest paid person in the United States (after William Randolph Hearst). If you can think of I'M NO ANGEL SHE DONE HIM WRONG, AND MYRA BRECKINRIDGE, then you can tell me the author of today's quote.

I don't know if the commercials and print ads will help stop texting while driving. I certainly hope they do.

How nice for the temple! I wonder how much of the treasure they will manage to keep. I hope the enterprising kid with his yard services accumulates some treasure, too. {s}

Hope you have a good day at Mom's.

Hi Pat

If the ads deter at least one person from texting and driving then they are worthwhile.

I hope the Temple keeps all of the loot!

And I hope the kid earns enough to pay for college.

From bottom to top again...

Good for Robbie and his landscaping business. If a ten year old can figure out how to start a business and build it to ten employees - apparently other kids - wouldn't you think adults could figure it out?

The temple find is incredible. Like Pat, I wonder how much of the treasure will remain with the temple and what will be confiscated as national treasures and, if so, what those treasures will finance.

As to the BMW commercial - if it makes one person stop and think and not text, thank goodness. I've never understood why people think they can type and drive at the same time! I even have my GPS set so it gives me verbal instructions and I don't have to look at the screen at all. There's a radio ad here, wife calls husband to verify she's on her way home from work, they agree to meet for dinner, before going home, she asks him to text her the address of the restaurant, so she can put it in her GPS (which would be the same as texting). Next thing, you hear a loud crash and wife yelling husband's name, with no response.

I'm not surprised BMW jumped on the bandwagon to do the commercials and such. A friend of ours has worked for them for years, in the ergonomics area, designing both comfort and safety and he says they really are dedicated to making their cars as safe as possible.

Hi DR

It always amazing to me on how many stories I can find where teens and even younger are smarter than adults. However, most of them have an adult in the background supporting them.

I would hope the temple would keep it under the finders keepers law. Be interesting to see whast happens.

I'm with you on the BMW commercial I think it will make more then one person to stop and think and not text but just one makes it worth while.

Sounds like both your friend and BMW want everyone that uses their cars to be safe. Good for them.
