It's Monday!

The blog schedule this week. Tomorrow will be Oscar Summary. Wednesday and Saturday's will be normal entries. If time permits there will be an entry on Thursday and Friday but no promises.

An update on the lawsuit against Mom. Just a recap. Mom & Dad owned with another couple a rental house in the not so nice parts of Portland several years ago. In May mom was notified by the county that there where several years of unpaid property taxes and they could have the property for the unpaid taxes. After looking at the property and finding it would have to be improved to be in terrible shape we pretty much backed off on it. Over the years Mom, Dad, and the other couple sold the property three times. And each time it was a private sale and didn't go through escrow. Proper deeds were not recorded. In November a trust decided to buy the property and came to all the people listed on the deed. They offered everyone listed on the property a sum of money to sign the deed over to them. Which everyone listed on the property did but G.C. Mom and B, wouldn't sign the deed over to them unless a hold harmless agreement was included. G.C. refused to sign the deed over and ignored all correspondence. In order to get clear title, the trust sued G.C. for clear title. G.C. found a shister attorney and countersued everyone included on the title. Mom received a summons and the lawsuit and was given thirty days to respond. After really wanting to go after G.C.'s attorney I took a deep breath and handed it over to my attorney brother. He called the trust's attorney. Because of the hold harmless agreement the trust is required to provide a defense for Mom & B. Grover said the attorney was just as nice as she could be. Lou, the trust's representative, is dying of cancer. The attorney said she would have to get Lou's permission to be our attorney since he was footing the bill. Apparently she did because we go the answer to the complaint yesterday. The lovely attorney responded to the thirty page complaint with one sentence:

"Plaintiff denies each and every allegation of Defendant's counterclaim."
Mom isn't out of it yet but she has a pretty damn good team on her side. An honest man, Lou, who honored an agreement to provide a defense with a well qualified, attorney, RP. An attorney son with a calm demeanor and knowledge of the law. And another son who is a fighter and if any of his relatives or friends are attacked is going after the offending parties with vengeance to make them rue the day they ever treated someone badly but is willing to temporarily stand back. Prayers and good thoughts for Lou Please.

On to today's entry:

A surprise choice give by a judge:

Rather to go to jail I am going to my Facebook account and beg for mercy. What would you do?

First the good news on Women's Health:

What a morass about that property! It does sound as if your mom has a good team on her side, with you leading the cheering section. I hope it can all be settled soon and reasonably.

Couldn't get to the first story with your link, but searching for "apology or jail" took me to a story in the Denver Post about a guy who was ordered to apologize on Facebook for making bad comments there about his estranged wife. He had to do it daily for a month. Is that the right story? It sounds like a just sentence, I guess, but I deplore so many things happening just on Facebook, where I rarely visit any more. I felt I was wasting too much time on it for little reward, since I don't post there or communicate there, with rare exceptions. So I'm sure I miss things that would be of interest, but it's kind of a matter of time vs. reward and FB is losing with me now.

I'm fairly heavily into oranges and orange juice. So am I safe from blood-clot related strokes? Who knows? Just another thing to add to the "maybe" category. I already knew the bad news about women often not recognizing heart attack symptoms. So, what's a girl to do? Call 911 if her nose twitches?

Thanks for the update on the lawsuit. Sounds like Mom's got a good team working, including you. I like the atty's response (eg).

Couldn't get to the first article about the apology, but saw Pat's comments. I guess it's a suitable sentence, depending on the "crime."

I know I don't eat enough fruits and veggies, although I try to do salads daily and fiber. Fruits and even fruit juices don't particularly appeal to me. (Shrug)

Sounds like we need to up our education for women and also for physicians, in terms of heart attack symptoms. I do know almost all studies have been on men. OTOH, the possible symptoms for women are so all over the map, it does get a bit confusing and one isn't sure what to pay attention to in many cases.

Hi Pat

I actually think the best thing we with Mom's property was to take the money last November and sign off on the deed. Had we not done that we would have probably been sued like G.C. and we wouldh't have had a hold harmless agreement. Because of that agreement Mom isn't going to be out anything but time.

Sorry you couldn't get to the first story but you nailed it. I actually like Facebook but hate that they keep making changes. As to the article I think the guy is getting off easy if all he has to do is apolgize.

I think you are pretty healthy. I knew about women and heart attacks but didn't know how dramatic is was.

Hi DR

I think the attorney's response was right on. She sure isn't out to build up attorney's fees.

Pat nailed the first article, I think the apology is to soft of sentence.

I am with you on not eating enough fruit and veggies. And not eating enough fish. I can't remember the last time I had a glass of fruit juice.

For so long our education has been wanting where women's health is concerned. I am glad to see that changing even if a little to slowly. Another area where heart attack are all over the map are diabetecs.
