Today The Blog Writes Itself

Because it is my favorite day of the week. Update Date. I really do want to hear what all of you are up to. How are you spending Memorial Day weekend? Picnics? Hamburger, hot dogs, and potato chips? Organic salads and healthy food? Sleep? Are your kids through with school soon? What about some secrets? Come on we all want to know your secrets and uttermost private thoughts! How are you elderly parents doing? Got a concern or question about caregiving? Would love to hear either. Want to brag about your kids? Awww come on be a proud parent! Any exciting events coming up in your life this week or in the near future? Any exciting events that you just recently attended? Want to vent? Want to vent about that &*$^ idiotic driver that didn't signal? Want to vent about that jackass that crowded in front of you in the ticket line at the movie theater? What about those inconsiderate clueless people that have sixteen items in the fifteen item only express line at the grocery store? Or what about those SUVs parking in a parking spot for compact cars? At work when you took an lunch break and went to the break room had someone already eaten your lunch? This is your day on the blog. The day when you get to choose what you want to talk about. Even if you haven't posted for a while we would still like you to check in, we miss you!

This weekend my sister is here so I am using the time to continue preparing for my dreams to come true by cleaning out my townhouse. I've made tremendous progress. However, I still have a ways to go. In cleaning the garage I found a bunch of 33 1/3 music albums and also some 45s. Now I have to figure out what to do with them. The two local libraries said they didn't want them. I also have an old record player that can play them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also on the agenda this weekend is two of my favorite things, writing and shopping. Back to writing. At least some exercises to get over writer's block. Also some Internet exploring of dating sites so I can get back into the game. Then shopping. Book store shopping. And maybe even a movie to go to this weekend.

This past week was interesting but like most of my life somewhat boring. And was filled with one frustration. My sister always says they come up to give me time off from mom. Then she plans get togethers every day. They got here late Monday night. The first three days off of my supposedly two weeks off (a two weeks that lasts nine days)? The minister on Wednesday. Taking mom to the foot doctor on Thursday? Do those really look like days off to you? OK, I also went to the foot doctor and had my feet done so that was something I probably would have done anyhow. But it could have waited for a while. At least to the end of my nine day two weeks off. I have a lot to do to organize my life. I was hoping to get most of it done while Mom was being cared for by someone else. Isn't going to happen. However, I do treasure sis because she and her husband do way more then my brother does (which is nothing), to help with mom.

We had a great time yesterday at Spirit Mountain Casino although nobody won any money. The food was good. Love those sweet potato fries. The trip out there was just stunning. Beautiful day, beautiful scenery.

That is it for me. Now it is your turn. Tell me everything. Talk about any subject you damn well please!

We're going to Kentucky for the weekend, and just hope the traffic isn't too bad.

Re your 33s and 45s...they are VERY collectible. Check on e-bay. Or ask at your local used book store - they may carry CDs too and might could recommend someplace local. We got rid of ours many years ago.

Have a good weekend!

Memorial Day weekend? Oh, right, so it is. As you can see, I have no special plans for the weekend. Which is fine. Quiet time off is always nice.

In your list of things to vent about, one touched a nerve. The SUVs who take up two parking spaces. I've long since given up expecting anyone to pay attention to the "Compact" spaces. I park in them myself and my car, while not big, is not technically "compact". I hate the SUVs as much as I always did, but even more I hate the idiots who draw the lines in parking lots. There are two in town that are especially egregious, Wells Fargo's and the one for Barnes & Noble and movies and others. There is barely room for my '91 Camry between the lines, so naturally every other person, no matter the size of their vehicle, parks over the line. This forces me to park over the line, too, and I hate myself when I have to do that. Sometimes I just go to the very back of the lot and figure a hike is better than taking up two spaces.

So you're having a nine day two week vacation that's not a vacation. Figures. Sorry.

I'll second Mary Z's comment about the records being collectible. I just saw an article about how they're making a comeback and are in some demand. I have a huge collection myself, and someday will go through them and part with the ones I can bear to. I never play them any more, but some I shall probably hold onto until I die.

Hi Mary Z

Have a great time in Kentucky!

Because of your suggestion I went to Powell's in downtown Portland and they directed me to a classic music stores that buys 45s and 33 1/3 s. So thank you!

Hi Pat

Sounds like we have the same type of weekend planned!

I with you on the SUVs taking up two parking spots. I also hate small parking spaces in places.

As to the records I am of the mine frame now that anything that I haven't used in ten years is probably something I don't need taking up space.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Bill. Since I seem to keep forgetting I have a blog, I'll do my update here. The events of this week have been trying in a way, to say the least. On Monday, a 17-yr old kid rear-ended my ONE year old car. Fortunately, his parents insurance is with the same company as mine. Rear bumper has to be replaced. CAT scan showed the KNOT on my forehead from hitting driver window is not life threatening although it did give me a whopper of a headache. Kidlet was with me but had no clue we were even in a wreck (she was more concerned I had to cut off the car and she couldn't listen to her music). Sitter's 16 year old decided she was unhappy at her parents house so she ran away. This means my sitter couldn't babysit at last minute notice but I found a replacement through the summer if I need one. I'm currently in Finance for Business and if you have any clue, Bill, how do formulas on Excel for compound annuities, please send me an email. I have a homework assignment and having lots of trouble with the last two parts. Other than that, life is good. Grandbaby is healthy and growing like a weed. : )

Hi Symply

Happy Memorial Day to you too.

I'm glad you did your update here.
By the way if you get a snail mail from Sherwood, Oregon on Tuesday that is from me so don't throw it away!

Excell started after my time. If wasn't even an apple in someone's eyes when I finished college. The hardest thing I had to do on the job I just finished was the idiotic Excell formulas! So I can't be much help then. Now debits, credits, IRS problems, Quickbooks, Lacerte, Wordprocsser, I'm good to go if you need help on any of those.

WOW What a week you had. Will you have to pay a deductible? Ouch on the headache. Be really careful because some signs of an injury or a concussion might not show up for a couple of days.

When it rains, it pours. Awful about the babysitter but I am glad you found a replacement!

Yea for the grandbaby!

Hi, sorry I haven't been updating. I've been stopping by though.

Dad was discharged from the hospital today. We had to scurry last week to find a replacement domestic helper. Mum was dragging her feet about it, being picky over the choice of candidates and we had to impress upon her that the hospital was not doing to let dad stay forever. If they couldn't discharge him to suitable care at home, they would have retained him at the hospital under a respite programme and that would not be covered by his pension. So she only woke up rapidly at the thought of incurring extra cost.

So I hope this domestic helper works out. Dad was at first fearful of going home. He said he was frightened. I think he meant he was afraid that he'd fall again, afraid that caring for him would be too much for my mother, even with a maid now. He didn't want to go home because he said he didn't think he could walk from the taxi up the driveway to the front door. Mum pointed out that he could walk more than twice this distance easily at the hospital when the physiotherapist put him about his exercises. I can understand his fears but I really don't know what to do about them.

Hope you guys have a great holiday weekend.

Hi Snug

So good to hear from you, I've been wondering how your dad was doing.

I'm glad your dad was released from the hospital but I can understand both the fears of your mom and dad. The hospital has become safe for them.

I hope the domestic worker works out!

Was he able to walk from the taxi to the house?

Only he can do something about the his fears, you can only be there to support him.
