Sleep Week 2010.

As always a day of rest results in there being no Who Am I of the day. Yesterday's answer was Elizabeth Monroe.

The coming week is going to be a tad busy starting with today. Caregiver is on a mini-vacation so from this afternoon until Tuesday morning I am at Mom's house. When when I get up on Tuesday morning I head directly to an accounting seminar. The dreadful thing is I have another accounting seminar on Wednesday. And yes I did check the dates and I am right this time. Tuesday's subject is a Practical Guide To Sleeping During An Accounting Seminar and not get caught. OK, I lied, it is "A Practical Guide To Trusts." On Wednesday I will be paying the utmost attention to some doofus in a monotone voice talking about "Applying The Risk Assessment Standards Using A Case Study Approach." The biggest risk for me is passing out from boredom. After the two seminars this week only one more is on the horizon, thank goodness. That one is June 18 and is about bankruptcy today.

Last week was one night at Mom's, a dinner out with the family, a trip to the casino for lunch and the movie Robin Hood. I did fit in two days of writing. Mostly about the blog but also a couple of chapters of Searching For Justice.

Entertainment front. Top Chef Masters is down to the final three. The final is on the same day that Top Chef starts. Wednesday night. The finalists for Top Chef Master's are Rick Moonen, Susur Lee, and Marcus Samuellson. I have kind of thought all year that Rick was an annoying jackass but he redeemed himself with the way he treated Jonathan this week. Susur is very creative and he probably should win but I am going to change gears and root for Rick. If you want to see the new chefs on this season's Top Chef which starts at 9 (8 central) Wednesday, you can read the bios of the contestants here:

http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/season-7/bios

I really want a woman to win since so few women have won the Top Chef title. After reading the bios the chef that gets my cheers is Kelly Liken. I do reserve the right to change my mind each week.

I did watch America's Got Talent this week but shut it off after about forty-five minutes. Some of the contestants were so bad it just wasn't worth my time. I will return to the show after they weed out the people without talent.

The blog is now yours. What's going on with you and those around you? Sure would love a new poster or two to introduce themselves!

Sounds like last week was as busy in its own way as the next week will be. Two seminars, back to back? Poor Bill! Glad you've only one left to endure.

Been busy around here. I got the analysis finished, which means I'm currently unemployed. Bad timing. They got the house and shed painted, in between rain and storms and I'm quite pleased with the color. The cleared everything out of the "equipment garage" under the 2nd story deck and hauled most of it away (I barely managed to rescue my planters!) and put a layer of peat gravel over the clay. We did a line dance show at an assisted living facility and had a ball. There were forty-plus people in the audience and I think they had as much fun as we did. Their only complaint was we didn't dance longer!

This weekend is getting organized for the trip to IL. Detailed the inside of the car yesterday, a task long overdue. Found the suitcases and realized I've not packed a suitcase in four or five years, as we keep the rig ready to leave on short notice and only have to add clothes and food. Must Make List of Toiletries & Such.

I'll be out of contact from the 10th to the 18th. Don't know if anyone up there has direct connections I can figure out and won't have my geru with me.

Hi DR

While we will all miss you I hope you have a stunning and great time in Illinois!

Glad you finished the true crime analysis. Also glad the painting job turned out well!

You know you were a success when the audience wanted you to keep on dancing! I think I would have loved that assisted living center!

I'm sure we'll have a nice time in IL, especially once I get the twelve hour drive behind me.

The home we were at was the assisted living/rehab facility Mom stayed in for 5-1/2 weeks after her heart surgery and complications. It felt good to "give something back," as they were so good to her.

Hi DR

Have a safe drive, twelve hours is a long time on the road especially if you do it in one day.

What a treat it was for you to give back! It sounds like everyone benefited.

Wow, more seminars? I think it might be a good seminar for you to go to about sleeping during one and not getting caught. Or maybe one for checking time and dates....:)

Is it just me, or does the care giver get a lot of time off? I loved your facebook this morning about Sundays and coupons.

Top Chef Masters. I didn't watch this season. Wasn't that into it. I do like me some Top Chef though, so will set my timer for this Wednesday and will keep you posted on my pick of the week. :) Thanks for the reminder.

DR, good job on the dancing at the facility. I think its great you can do that. Illinois? Not real far from me, depending on which part. If you see me act like you know me and give me a holler, & I will do the same. :) And yes, please do drive safe and be careful.

Not too much happened the past week. Decided to try to tackle barn to have a yard sale. Failed miserably as it was about 90 out and 120 in barn. Managed to get a car load to take to sons yesterday. Got there at 7, by 8 was drenched in sweat and not for sure what was going on with hair. By 9 didn't really care as it was raining. Sun came out at 10, but was pouring at noon & got drenched. Decided we had had enough. Kids made $300, me $50. Had a fun time got to forget my troubles as I love a good yard sale. Although today am having a hard time moving. :)

This week we have 3 days of procedures/ultrasounds/blood tests and doctors appointments for the both of us. Yay. Thanks for recent good vibes and such and keep sending them for another few days for both me and the Shankster, I sure appreciate it.

Two seminars in one week is an OD of boredom. Especially that first one... it sounds deadly. Bankruptcy today may be very appropriate, from everything I hear.

How did you like ROBIN HOOD?

I like Rick on MASTERS. But I like the others, too. I think Susur is a little arrogant, but he's obviously very good. They're starting NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR, too, so we may get entirely chef'd out pretty soon.

Nothing much new here, except I have lost my 2 night/week caregiver due to conflict at the facility, nothing to do with me or mom. I have an applicant who would be fine, but he's the go-to night guy for the facility, and I'm afraid of schedule conflicts. Decisions, decisions...

Hi Dona

I needed 56 hours of education this year. I have 24 hours to go, eight after this week. Thanks for the comment about Facebook!

No it isn't just you she does get a lot of time off. She doesn't view this as a job. But we are kind of stuck.

Be interest to see who you like on Top Chef.

Wow that is to damned hot to have any kind of a yard sale. They are enought work as it is let alone to have to battle the weather. However, I think making three hundred and fifty bucks is great!

We will all keep you in our prayers, good thoughts, and vibes for this week's procedures.

Hi Pat

Sending good thoughts that you find just the right caregiver for your Mom. What a hassle.

That is why I chose the bankruptcy one, a lot of people are filing for it.

I will post the review of ROBIN HOOD later in the beek but I was surprised how good it was. The reviewers underrated it, imho.

Can we ever overload on cooking?

I thought of you this week. I went to Reno and got 24 hours of continuing ed, which was mostly really interesting and valuable. One of the best sessions was called everything about real estate. And it really was, it talked about everything from deducting mortgage interest from multiple houses to tracing interest on funds that have gone elsewhere, like businesses, to 1031 exchanges and foreclosures. The woman next to me brought out her kindle and read steadily for two hours, and then fell asleep!

A friend said someone behind her was snoring loudly. Heh. It wasn't you, was it?

Continuing education is so fun. I'd rather get it by teaching than sitting still, but this was a really good conference for me.

Yeah, twelve hours is more than I'd like for one day, but I'll load the car with good tapes, fire up Bridgette and just go. Lots of people do it routinely.

Dona, congrats on the yard sale, although it sounds like conditions were less than ideal. We used to do them at least once a year, but not so much lately. Not enough stuff left for the hassle and if it's "good" stuff, I hope to use Craig's List. I'm headed to Bloomington IL, then on up to Princeton. Where should I give a wave, as I'm driving?

You'll definitely have my prayers and positive thoughts throughout the week!

Pat, good luck on the caregiver situation. I know it has to be incredibly frustrating, given what you've gone through in the past finding reliable help.

Bill, same to you on the caregiver situation. Wish you could find someone really reliable, who related well to your mom.

Hi Mary

Always good to see you post. I went to a couple of four hour seminars last month that were actually pretty good. One was about ethics. The other was about protecting privacy. But I have been in it so long that I end up knowing most the speakers and some of them I had trained. Makes me feel old.

I'm glad the conference went well and the real estate part sounds like it was not only interesting but will be very useful.

That easily could have been me snoring. Getting up in front of the room and teaching scares me to death. I really appreciate your teaching skills!
