Cancer, Health Care, & Dads.

Day two at Mom's. Since my overnight hospital stay I adopted a new way to think and to control my stress. Basically it is take a deep breath and not react. It sure does make the stays here a lot more fun.

First up is some good news on cancer:

Then a bit of sad news. It is just really tragic that in America a man found himself in this position:

Since we aren't really that removed from Fathers' Day an article on a good dad. Or is he good dad? You decide.

PRESIDENTS

Yesterday's answer was Herbert Hoover. Today's president was quoted as saying, "I don't know. I've never played a governor." Actor first. Communicator second. Governor third. President fourth. Born in 1911 and died in 2004. Jelly beans and the number forty will help you to answer the question, Which President Am I?

It's always good news when there's an advance in cancer treatment.

So sad that an American has to go to prison to get health care!

I didn't much care for the agency this guy worked for, and I hope he's a good salesman who can get another gig. OTOH quitting a job for a baseball game is really a bit stupid.

I hope your mom visits continue stress-free.

I like your approach - deep breathing and not reacting. With no reaction, it's tough to continue the "game." Good for you.

Great news on progress on a cancer vaccine. I know they've been trying to get to this point for years. How wonderful to see some early results.

The story of the man trying to go to jail is a pretty sad commentary on America's health care system, supposedly the best in the world. It may well be, but only for those who can afford it. Too many can't afford basic care and many more have no means to take advantage of cutting edge technology, particularly if their insurance company won't buy off on it.

And who says South Carolinians don't take their kids and sports seriously? I think, given the importance of the conference and such, the employer should have been more understanding. Fine, if the guy has no vacation days, let him take time off without pay, but let him go see his kid during a very proud and successful period in his life. I suspect there may well have been other issues at play, for the guy to quit, in order to attend the games.

Hi Pat

A vaccine would sure be better than chemo.

It is real sad statement about the US that we can give tax cuts to the rich and can't keep a man for stealing a buck so he can go to prison for health care.

It is the college world series which usually is a once in a lifetime thing for the college player so I understand the importance of the dad wanting to see it but it was kind of dumb to quit a job because that puts the rest of the family at risk.

It was a good day at Mom's

Hi DR

It was a good day today at Mom's but I did to a lot of breathing and ignoring yesterday.

I actually worked at a cancer research center where they were devolpo=ing a vaccaine and that was ten years ago but it didn't work and they lost money for the funding.

I think the man going jail on the health care system it is also a sad statement on what is going on in the country right now.

I did notice the man in the baseball artice was from South Carolina. The world series is a once in a lifetime thing the company should have let him time off and let him make it up later by working Saturdays.
