Dust, Getting Upright, & Schooling Gender

Moon dust gets in your eyes or auction house:

Sometimes it takes a while to get upright:

Is the following school getting it right?

PRESIDENTS:

Yesterday's president was Calvin Coolidge. Today's president was quoted as saying, "The American Continents, by the free and independent condition which they have assumed and maintained, are henceforth not to be considered as subjects by any European powers." Born in 1758 and died in 1831. He was not Marilyn's brother. Florida was purchased during his reign. He served during the "Era of Good Feelings." Think of a Doctrine and the number five and you can answer the question, Which President Am I?

I hope the speck they found really is moon dust. It's just so cool to have samples from the moon. Too bad there are fakes out there, but I suppose that was inevitable.

I saw a TV movie on the Hunley some years ago. With Armand Assante as the ranking officer. It was very affecting, as those men were pretty sure they were going to die.

I suspect gender roles will out in the end, even if they're ignored at that school. Seems to me the trick is not to pretend there are no gender differences, but to push the idea that stereotypical roles are not necessarily correct or desirable. They seem to be doing a lot of that. I have to say their experiment is interesting, well-meant, and I'd like to hear the results of it.

Interesting about the moon dust. Equally interesting the guy cut up the piece of tape, rather than returning it to the US. I hope it's real.

Living in SC, we kind of follow what's going on with Hunley, as events develop. It'll be interesting to see if they can find an actual cause for it sinking.

The school's an interesting experiment. Are they going to extremes? I'm not sure. I do wonder, once the children leave school, how much "genderlessness" is in their lives at home, within the extended family and during social activities. I thoroughly agree with activities and learning that discourage the typical stereotypes for males and females and wonder just how such early training may affect the children's future lives. I hope they follow the kids long enough to make some determination.

Hi Pat

I actually used to have a can of moon dust when I worked at Rockwell at the time of the landing but over the years I lost it. I also used to have ash from the eruption of Mount St. Helens which of course I lost too.

I actually remember the movie you mentioned too. The men did know they were going to die.

I would love to see the results of the gender experiment also. I just wonder if they aren't going to far. Especially after the parents not referring to their children by gender.

Hi DR

I wondered also why the guy didn't return the it to the US. I would have.

I kind of thought you would be familiar with the Hunley. I do hope they find the cause of the sinking.

Not only the genderlessness at their homes but in society as wells. Every story except maybe grocery stores has girls and boys sections as well as men and women sections. And how many men to you see at the makeup counter at Nordstrom's or Macy's?
