Fact Or Crap?

Although I don't really have a lot to write about today I do have big news for my Sunday update. It is news that possibly could change my life. You will just have to wait until Sunday to find out what it is. I also couldn't find a feel good story but am looking for one from the past for the blog for next week. I did, however, find a very inspirational story. Fair warning, it is a tearjerker:

http://www.gnn.com/article/killian-mansfield-cuts-album-while-dying/729636?icid=main|htmlws-main-n|dl1|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gnn.com%2Farticle%2Fkillian-mansfield-cuts-album-while-dying%2F729636

I couldn't find a cut from the charity album but you can hear this young teen play here:

Yesterday's trivia answer was Belva Ann Lockwood, the first woman to be allowed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Today I an introducing a new trivia game to the blog. The game is called fact or crap. I make a statement and you tell me whether the statement is fact or crap. To introduce the game there are ten statements. Which are the following statements are fact? Which are crap?

McDonald's lawyers fought with McDavid's, a burger chain in Israel, over the trademark to the name.

A drug created from Gila monster salva is helping diabetics control glucose.

Saddam Hussein once used Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" as campaign theme song.

The world's most dangerous snake, the black mambo-like, is named for the mambo-like dance moves it makes.

During World War II copies of the board game Monopoly were adapted to help POWS escape Nazi camps.

Lemmings commit mass suicide.

The US Military studied the Frisbee to see if the same idea could be used in warfare.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles was originally a very adult Japanese comic book before it was a kid's cartoon.

Julia Roberts once thanked 112 people in a 12 minute Oscar acceptance speech.

President Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House but President Ronald Reagan took them down.

Questions for the day. Do you think it is fact or crap that I have news that could possibly change my life? What do you think it is? And what is more prominent in your life fact or crap?

I don't think you'd post a crap teaser about your news. I do think it's evil of you to make us wait until Sunday to find out what it is. If I had to guess, I'd say it's either something to do with money or about your sis moving close to you and your mom. If you had found Miss Right and were getting married, I think I'd have heard SOMETHING before now.

My life? It's pretty much crap, but not of the falsehood kind, more of the boring kind.

Hi Pat

Neither Miss Right or money. If I had won the lottery I wouldn't be posting, I would have died from a heart attack. And if I found Miss Right it would be posted immediately.

I think all of us caregivers have a pretty boring life. Important but boring.

Oh, PS: I just now looked at the article, and you're right, it's a tearjerker. Youtube has several clips of young Killian. Brave kid!

Hi Pat

Damn brave kid, raising money for the needy even after he is no longer with us.

Bill, I loved the article and clips of Killian. Such a talented and brave kid. Thanks for sharing.

As to your news..I also think it is evil of you to make us all wait so long. But you are my evil twin from another mother, so you can't help it. :)

I don't think its crap either, I think also it may be something about sis moving closer or just something to do with her and your mother or maybe another income opportunity? You seem to just be so good at those kinds of things.

And my life? As a matter of Fact...it is Crap.

:)

Hi Dona

Good to see you here, I was about to send out a search party for you and the Shankster. I was worried about you.

Let's hope it isn't an income opportunity. The last income oppoertunity I had the company went broke and I lost a third of my retirement fund.

Did I telly sis is coming her unexpecteduly Saturday? They are only going to be here four days. Enough to give me a bit of a break.

No I didn't see that you said sis was coming...good for you! Take the break and have fun.

And sorry I have only been sneaking a peak here and there online as I am so sick! YECH. Cold & cough and miserable and can't sleep more than usual, and am having trouble speaking..... (the Shankster is loving that last part!)

OkyDoky, Thanks!

I may have some issues, but I very rarely get sick with a cold or flu. I got the flu last year and had not had it since the 80's!
I honestly thought I just was having some sinus problems with the silly weather lately, and then boom...I have felt so bad for almost a week now. I try to walk for about 45 minutes each day and at the beginning of the week I was having so much trouble with breathing I knew something was up with me...SO PLEASE Send some healing thoughts.

Hi Dona

With the amount of stress you been under the out of breath part worries me a bit. I hope you have or are going to the doctor.

Of course you got all the healing things that I have here sent your direction.

Dona, lots of healing vibes coming your way! I just heard a report about the swine flu that said a lot of people are going to docs and ERs that really shouldn't. But they said that if it looks like pneumonia, you SHOULD go. I had pneumonia once, many years ago, and what I remember was that I had to breathe in short pants... couldn't take a deep breath.

Lady DR said...

First, Dona, please check in with the doc. I'll be sending lots of healing vibes and prayers, but please check in, okay? As others said, the shortness of breath is a concern.

Bill what a wonderful article. Here, we have another hero. He's dying, but determined to find a way to help others. I've sent the links to my friend who has the ukele band.

You are really a teaser for not posting your news until Sunday, but I'm thinking it has to be good stuff and am crossing fingers and looking forward to the announcement. I can only hope that in addition to you getting a short break with your sister's visit, it's good news about sis and your mom and somes relief in your caregiving duties, in some way.

My life... Pretty much fact, I guess. Given what others are going through, I certainly can't say crap, although I've had better weeks. So, I'd say fact - what is, is, here it is and it's better than most have, so deal with it. On balance, I'd say my blessings far outweight any crap I'm dealing with. Back to the question: Will this matter in five years?

Hi Pat

I was worried more about the heart than the flu. Sometimes flu symptons maks heart problems.

Hi dr

That young kid is definitely a hero. I hope your friend enjoys both the article and the video.

I have given hints in my first response to Pat. She picked three things, I ignored one. It is a good thing if it actually happens.

I hope your week gets better and am wondering what went off kilter last week for you!

Whoops, didn't get back to computer until today, so wanted to thank all for the thoughts/wishes for me. You guys are too kind.

Please don't be too worried. I have asthma, didn't get it until I was 42, so I tend to forget that I have it until I can't breathe....:)

Without going in to too much detail what I was trying to say about the trouble breathing was I think my chest was getting congested and I didn't realize it until I was trying to walk up that hill and had to stop a million times when I had been doing it without any trouble. So that triggered me to thinking, is this an asthma attack or did I get a bug from someone?
I have had enough asthma attacks to know when one is coming on, so I sorta knew then I was getting sick. It went downhill from that point on.

Today I have lost my voice. I have a whisper. Shankster is having fun with that. Being able to tell me what to do..etc. and I can't talk back... I am blaming it all on my dad as for weeks now he has been coughing and the minute I heard him, I mentioned he was getting sick. He denied it. Said he has had a cough for years since they put him on the blood pressure pills.
But he has not taken them all summer. And I have lived here for 6 years & have not heard him coughing. But you cannot tell him anything.
Does anyone else experience this with their parents? The I know everything and you can't tell me anything? Drives me nuts.

After 2 weeks of the coughing he finally gave in and said I was right he may be sick. DUH too late. Now I have it. I hate to be this kind of sick.

And I had already had an appointment for doc next week. So don't worry, I will be fine.

Hi Dona

We are happy whenever you check in and I am very pleased you checked out the doctor!

I am sorry that you lost your voice but glad you have The Shankster to speak for you.

My mom is just the opposite of your dad, she is more inclined to say she is sick at the slightiest sign. I am, however, like your dad and don't admit I am ever sick.
