One Thing or The Otter.

The answer to yesterday's Who Am I was Mary Pickford. She was first married to Douglas Fairbanks, therefore the clue in the Who Am I "during her first marriage she wondered about how fair banks were."

First up is a good news story. Maybe not good news for us but certainly good news for the Otter.

Do you know happens a week from Saturday? Well actually it is a week from Sunday morning at 2:00 A.M. I will give you a hint, I complain about it twice a year. Even after reading the following article I still don't like it. Explain it all you want it is stupid.

Next up is a continuation of a theme of one of the articles from yesterday. I apologize for the couple uses of the "F" word and think the article could have easily made its point without the use of it but still the article makes some valid points. I'm not so sure I agree that men are under attack, they are just being put in places that women have been put in for years.

Off to get ready for work. I am assuming my car will start, if not I may be a little ticked. Pre-emptive ticking, that has been my style lately. Comment away.

I'm with you on Daylight Savings Time, as you know. It's totally stupid. If it really conserves energy, why don't we have it year 'round? Is it not important to save energy in the winter?

Equally stupid is the last article. But maybe it's because I'm no longer in the dating game that I don't see huge differences in men emerging lately. Are they really becoming so insecure? And so infantile?

It's too late to send good wishes for your car starting right up, but know that if I'd been here earlier, I would have.

So, we have a majority of three on DST. Dumb. Any "energy" saved by longer evenings is consumed by those who have to get up before it's light in the morning, with the way-early start times. I'm not finding the balance. Pick a time and stay with it, rather than having everyone reset their body clocks. Numerous studies have shown that various types of accidents peak during the first week after the time changes in spring or fall, by the way.

I'm not catching the point of the last article (in which, btw, I didn't see any "f" words). Maybe I don't know enough of the younger generation.

I think it's great women are getting better pay, more degrees and the like. OTOH, it's only been in the last twenty years or so that societal changes have made way for that to happen. There's also the fact that, if you go strictly by the numbers, I think females still outnumber males in the US, so it would be interesting to see if the percentages have changed. IF, for example, there are 500 females and 100 males in a college graduating class, it would seem reasonable more females than males get a degree that year. Not sure how to explain the higher pay, unless it still has to do with numbers and more women now being in the work force, eligible for and gaining executive positions, as a result of a long battle for equality in pay and position and successful sexual harassment suits.

The whole thing comes down to culture and societal expectations and mores and the like, maybe. About the only thing I can buy off on is the issue of more women electing to wait to get married, because they can support themselves, and wanting to marry on an equal basis, as opposed to marriage being the bottom line and women being expected to take care of home, kids, hubby and all. This may (a) force men to learn to care for themselves and their homes, (b) result in marriages and relationships based on something other than woman's dependence on men for financial survival and men depending on women to take care of all domestic duties. This would not necessarily be a bad thing, IMHO, as that leaves love, respect, caring as the basis for "hooking up."

I am with all of you on Daylight Savings Time. Didn't like it when I was a kid and feel the same now. (had several years where we didn't change and I loved it) So I got too used to not changing.

It seems like good news for the Otter, but even though I love good news stories when it comes to animals, I keep my distance from them. I saw a complete story once about a baby hippo...or was it a rhino? Anyhow, he was born with a problem and they did surgery to save him and kept him in the clinic for several months watching him get so much better giving him a name and getting attached to him....only for him to die soon after the story was released. I didn't like reading that at the end. Call me silly.

HI to everyone, I wanted to "check in" while I could, and not be a "stalker" so much as I have of late.
My new grandson is home and doing better. He is still a preemie so I am on the hunt for preemie clothing/diapers, as they weren't prepared for that. The Shankster got sick during the past 2 weeks and now dad is having some allergy/sinus problems, but I actually feel great! Weird.

Bill, I hope your car started & your tick went away.

Hi Pat

You hit the point I make every year, if it saves energy then just leave it as daylight savings time every year.

I thought the last article had some points. Think of the articles that have come out in the last lear. More women in men are in college now. More women than men are in the work force now. Now women are better at everynthing. Men are mostly portrayed as clueless fathers in most TV series. It is pretty much where women have been for years. Now we get our chance.

The car started right up!

Hi DR

Four now since Dona checked in! There are also more heart attacks when they set the clock ahead due to adjustments in medication and sleep patterns.

See my comment to Pat re the point of the article. And since I posted a link to the article she changed the "F" word to "screwed" so she must have gotten some complaints.

I think it is great how far women have come and I think they have a lot of ways to go too. And if men have to step back and be the minority for a while until there is true equality then so be it. We shouldn't worked to keep women down as long as we have.

I think there will be happier marriages on the horizon because the ones that I noticed are the best are the ones where they can exist without the other.

Hi Dona

So nice to see you check in.

Would be great if we had more baby pictures.

I am really glad you are doing well. Hope The Shankster is recovering and your dad will get over the allergies pronto.

And that the mom and dad of the baby and the baby are doing well and adjust to each other quickly.

As to the animal story, I had a hard time going to animal movies after "Old Yeller"

Don't be a stranger!

Dona, so good to see you here and to learn the baby is home and all are doing well on that front. Sorry to hear about the Shankster and your dad's allergies - hope both are resolved soonest. Good news that you're feeling great - continue to take care of you so that continues!
