Free Houses & Successful Women

The answer to yesterday's Who Am I was the lady chosen to play Rosie The Riveter in the promotional movies during WWII to recruit women into the workforce. Did you know Marilyn Monroe was a Rosie The Riveter? But she wasn't the first Monroe to be one, that honor belongs to yesterday's Who Am I answer, Rose Will Monroe.

Bank tries to foreclose but makes a mistake and a man gets a free house:

Fair? Are you happy with the outcome or do you have just a little sympathy for the bank?

Let's move from banks to the rich:

From a win for the poor guys and a win for the rich guys, let's move to win for women:

I sort of like the last story the best. Comment Away.

Hey everyone Dona has been trying to post a message here and the Blog has been rejecting her. Something we would never do. She and The Shankster need prayers. Here is her e-mail:

"I have went to your blog this morning and posted a comment on Sunday's post. I have tried it 3 times and it will not for some reason let it go through. ? So to not let you all think I am not ok, thought I would just send you a message. I thought about writing it again on here to let you post it, but gee, I forgot all I said...:)

I will just say, we have been very busy with Doc appointments and tests. Yech. I go again this afternoon to get 2 follow up tests on a test I took last Tuesday. We went to doc and testing 3 different days last week alone....Asking for a few prayers. Also the Shankster needs a biopsy on a lump found in his tongue. SO Much needed prayers and good vibes for him. Don't post this email on your blog, just ask for some prayers from all my friends there. I will keep trying to post, don't know what the problem is. You know I tried to post last week on one and the same thing happened, but it does happen from time to time and it always go through, but this time it wont' even let me back into your blog unless I log out and log back on and go. Weird. Please let all know I am ok, just busy with this crap.....LOL and am trying to get back on to commenting....just have to find the problem first! bye for now and thanks for thinking of us."

First, just got to the comment section and read about Dona's frustration at not being able to post. Lots of good wishes and vibes to her and the Shankster for good test results and an end to all the hassles.

Not sure whose side I'm on in the foreclosure story. I take a dim view of speculators who went bargain-hunting and got in over their heads and just bailed, but I can't say I love the banks, either. So I'll stay on the fence on this one, only wishing that the banks might be as kind to people who've gotten underwater due to loss of jobs or medical expenses.

I have no sympathy at all for the rich folks who manage to avoid taxes. Our tax code is a joke. If we did nothing at all, the Bush tax cuts would expire and we'd be in a lot better fiscal shape for the future. Bravo to Eric Schoenberg and his group.

And another bravo to the entrepreneurs and their Boogie Wipes. What a good idea, though I'm a little surprised at the revenue of $10 million. I don't recall cleaning a little nose being all that much of a problem, but it was a long time ago, so maybe my memory fails.

Here's hoping Dona can get back on soon. Meantime, lots of prayers for her and the Shankster, the various tests she's going through and the biopsy.

I'm happy with the foreclosure outcome. First off, the guy went in with a valid plan - buy, renovate, flip - at an affordable price and either qualified for the mortgage or the lender fiddled the numbers to make it appear he did. Then he got hit with the exorbitant interest bump, then the market tanked. Despite all the hoopla about the "bail out" to save homeowners, it did little. I know of two people who attempted to qualify and couldn't, despite neither have jobs, both having houses appraised at way less than the current mortgage balance, neither having other assets. So, yeah, I'm happy for the guy.

Cheer for Schoenberg and his group. He's absolutely right when he asks if it's "fair" for him to pay 1% of his $200K income, while the middle and lower classes are paying a much higher percentage, despite deductions they might have. From what I've seen, tax brackets based on income don't mean diddly, since those in the higher brackets have a gizillion loopholes. As to the number of people not paying any income tax at all, if you're unemployed or working part time or inconsistently you may not make enough money to owe any taxes. Many of the elderly, living on social security, with no pensions or savings to generate any am't of interest fall below the minimum amount of income to require even filing, from what I've seen. Ergo, if you have little to no income, there's no tax liability.

Great story on the moms and their business. It sure came together quickly for them. However, when you look at their backgrounds and their savvy, you can better understand why.

Hi Pat

I got a follow-up e-mail from Dona and she passed her tests but The Shankster has a few more to go.

I'm with you, Pat, I don't like either on in the house situation.
The banks are starting to be a little kinder. Thank goodness.

Not only is our tax situation a joke so is the Repulican of giving tax cuts during a time of war and then not including the war costs in the budget so it gives the impression we don't have to raise taxes. It is insane. We need to raise taxes and the rich are getting away with tax murder and should start paying their fair share.

Ten million for boogie wipes does seem a bit extreme.

Hi DR

See my note to Pat re Dona the prayers and good thoughs worked again.

You seem to stand alone on the foreclosure front and Pat and I are on the fence. But I do love your reasoning!

Schoenberg and his group are heroes. Tax on income would mean diddly if they aren't graced with tax perks for a small segment of the population. Perks the normal the poor will never be able to use.

I like the creative thinkin of the Moms.
