Holiday Hints

Laura Bush authored yesterday's quote. Here are some tips on how to have a happy holiday season.

In whatever you are doing use common sense. Certainly more common sense then the security guard at Safeway used:

Because the guard reacted with "I was just doing my job " I think he is not teachable and should be fired. What do you think?

Stress is a biggie during the holidays. Here are some things to help you manage those stressful moments:

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/45390936/ns/today-today_health/I especially like the dot on the phone as a reminder to take a deep breath.

Dreaming is a good way to handle stress:

I am dreaming about the house in Bel Air. I have a picture of it on my refrigerator. I am looking forward to owning the home and also having a seventy-five million petty cash fund.

Comment Away.

Excuse me... a four year old is forced to sign a statement that she shoplifted, stole and is banned from the store? And a woman and her husband are handcuffed and hauled off, their daughter taken away from them, because the woman ate a sandwich and forgot to pay for it? I'd say Safeway has some employee training issues that need to be addressed! Geez, I waltzed out of Bilo one time without paying for the bag of dog food on the bottom "shelf" of the cart and didn't realize it until I got to the car. Picture my embarrassment, as I wheeled it back in and explained what had happened! The clerks and manager, who happened to be nearby, got a good laugh out of it. Then again, I don't think Bilo has security guards...

Interesting article on stress. Who knew about orange juice? Must Drink More. Exercise is a given. Saunas may be nice, but I've never cared for them. However, if I had money I didn't know what to do with, I'd enclose the front porch and install a hot tub with massage jets in a skinny minute. Fifteen minutes in a hot tub and my mind is empty and my body limp as cooked spaghetti.

I shall dream of Green Acres. It sounds lovely. None of the others held a lot of appeal. And I still want to know what in the world one does with fifteen or nineteen or twenty-three bathrooms!

I think the guard was an idiot, but he may be teachable. He was probably fed up with all the petty crime that people get away with and the 4 y/o just happened to be the one that day. He definitely needs a lot of re-training, though. Handcuffs for a stolen sandwich seem a bit much, and taking their daughter from them seems more than just a bit much. In case the woman was trying to get away with it, though, I wouldn't balk at fining them.

Some good stress tips there. So interesting about caffeine in the company of friends being non-stress-producing.

These homes aren't even appealing. There are some really nice homes in Bev Hills, but these are not exactly representative. The Miami one doesn't look bad. I seem to have missed the one in Bel Air.

Hi DR

I have done the exact same thing as you. Left something in my cart that I didn't pay for in the cart and went back in to pay for it. And it was at Safeway. It sounds to me that Safeway doesn't have a company wide policy and it is on a store to store basis. I just wonder if you want someone with so little common sense as the guard to be working for you.

I had never heard of orange juice helping but I can't drink it due to the sugar and acid contents. I've never care for saunas either. Love your ideas about enclosing the porch.

23 bathrooms and I'd probably use each one. I liked the Green Acres one too.

Hi Pat

I agree the guard is in idiot and when I saw him interviewed I kept shaking my head and saying to myself "are you really this clueless?" If the woman stole the sandwich on pupose I wouldn't mind a fine and banishment from the store for a period of time.

I was kind of surprised about the coffee thing too. I didn't know who you drank it with made any difference.

The house in Bel Air was about the tenth on in. I will never live in any of these houses but I like to think about it.
