Sports & Entertainment

Today it is a sports and entertainment summary. Bowling, Figure Skating, Football, and The Screen Actors Guild awards.

First, let's all congratulate Kelly Kulick of Union, New Jersey! Who is Kelly? This weekend she won The Professional Bowlers Association Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada to become the first woman to win a tournament on the men's tour. She defeated male Chris Barnes 265- 195 to win forty grand.

Second, another big shout out to U.S. National Women's Figure Skating Champ, seventeen year-old Rachael Flatt. Let's not forget runner-up sixteen year-old Mirai Nagasu. The two young women will represent the United States at next month Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Third, in two weeks the super bowl will feature the Indianapolis Colts vs. New Orleans Saints. This will be the Colts second appearance in the super bowl in the last four years. This is the first time ever that the Saints have been there. When you think that it wasn't so long ago that the Saints didn't even have a home because due to Katrina their home stadium wasn't inhabitable because water leaks. Now the city, the stadium, and the football team have resurrected from ruin to not only stability but to the forefront!

Next is the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I can summarize why I like award shows in two words. Betty White. She received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Lifetime Achievement. It was the highlight of the fast moving two hour award show. In a bit of unselfishness Sandra Bullock was chosen to introduce Betty White. Some actresses have been known to turn down the extra work preferring to revel in the glory of their own evening nomination. After a summary of the winners I will post a link to the video of Betty White's acceptance speech. It is a little over eight minutes but well worth the time!

Just a few words. SAG is my favorite awards show. I like the pace of it and that it is done in two hours. Helen Mirren chose the wrong dress, it was awful. Ray Romano dressed weird, should have gone with a tux or nice suit. Kevin Bacon looked better than he did at the Globes. Drew Barrymore is just weird. She needs to work on her acceptance speech. I loved the good nature ribbing between Betty White and Sandra Bullock. Chemistry there. George Clooney can at time be over the top but I appreciated his comment that he once was a guest on The Betty White show and he appreciated her discretion. One of the best lines of the night.

Looking forward to the Olympics? Not particularly.
The Super Bowl? Good heavens, No. Probably won't even know it's on unless it's on the big screen when I visit mom. I guess if I have to choose a team, I'll take the Saints in honor of their comeback kid status.

Favorite TV drama, THE MENTALIST. Comedy, 30 ROCK. I don't have a favorite movie this year. I've only seen a couple of the new ones and since I can't remember offhand what they were, I guess they were forgettable.

Do I sound like The Grinch? Well, some days are like that.

Hi Pat

You don't sound like The Grinch. Although we all have those moments you just sound like a woman that knows what she likes.

I will have to check out The Mentalist.

NO comments. Don't watch TV, rarely movies, zip on sports most of the time. The Betty White video, btw, has been removed to copyright violations or some such. I tend to find my entertainment between the pages of books. altho some of them have been marginal lately.

Think I join Pat in the Grinch Group on this one. (wry s)Mom and Deb watch enough sports for all of us and I suspect Mom's looking forward to the Olympics, as she usually enjoys them tremendously.

Hi DR

OK, next year instead of flu shots you and Pat need to get Grinch Shots.

I am surprised that the video was removed because it was TNT that posted the video and TNT was the one that telecasted the award shows.

If I eliminate sports and entertaiment as subjects from the blog there won't be much left to write about, it gets really hard at times to find subjects on a daily basis. Especially since I try to stay away from politics.
