Spirits, Rhinos, And Skys.

Heading out to Mom's in a few minutes. Be back tomorrow night at about eight. Sometimes I wonder if spirits aren't invading my life.

Sometimes there is so much noise in her neck of the woods it sounds like seven Rhinos running:

And if there isn't anything good on TV now that the Olympics are over we just watch the sky:

Comment Away.

PS

Today's news question is who is Alda Collins?

Answer to the previous news questions of the day:

Shannon Eastin was the first woman to referee an NFL football game.

Claire Sherman is a twelve year-old Oregon girl from Raleigh Hills that is already doing cancer research and was playing in the Softball Little League World Series at Alphenrose Dairy in Raleigh Hills, Oregon.

Greta Friedman & George Mendonsa are the couple in the following photo, taken by Alfred Eisenstaed on VJ Day sixty-seven years ago.

Hope you enjoy the time with your mom.

Don't know about spirits invading my life, but gremlins sure seem to be creating havoc with some acquaintances and clients the last couple days!

Beautiful shots of the meteor shower and meteors. Too often, we forget to look up and revel in the beauty Nature provides us. Thanks for sharing.

I'll refrain from commenting on "spirits" since I don't believe in them. There's enough scary stuff in real life without conjuring up "spirits".

"Rhinoceruses?" I thought the plural would be one of those "i" ones. Couldn't find what's correct, but in looking, I discovered that in addition to the thick-skinned friend that we always think of first, there's an auk, a beetle, and a bird also given the distinction of "rhinoceros". Learn something every day! [g]

Ah, yes, the Perseids are back. I've never seen them properly. Spent one night on a mountaintop a while back, freezing my buns off and waiting for them. I fell asleep around 2 or 3 a.m. and missed almot all of the show.

I missed the question about Friedman/Mendoza and their famous kiss. That would have been an easy one to find.

Hi DR

I am enjoying time with my Mom. One of the reasons is that her stats are so much better when I am there.

I am going to search the Internet for Gremlin repellant to see if I can help you out!

I loved the meteor pictures.

Hi Pat

Because of some personal experiences I go back and forth about spirits.

Love you take on the Rhino article. I love it when I learn more and I learned a lot more from your post. I also thought the "i" would have been in there in a plural. Not only did you learn something you taught me!

Interesting that you could see the Perseids even from a mountaintop. My take on LA is is so populus and there are so many lights it is hard to see anything teleschope. We have pretty clear skys in Sherwood so we are able to see a lot that others don't.

The photo was easy to find, it was the 67TH anniversary of VJ day so it was everywhere.

My attempt at the Perseids wasn't at home, which would indeed probably have been hopeless. I was in NoCA with the family astronomy types. It seems the whole world, except maybe N. Korea, is light-polluted, but up there is better than L.A.

Hi Pat

NoCal makes more senses, now I understand! And you are right everywhere is light polluted except the places where nobody would want to go.
