Life Goes On

Oregon defeated Azizona State last night 43-21. The score is closer than the game was. Oregon lead 43-7 at halftime. They didn't play any of their starters the second half. Basically it was Oregon's third team that managed the second half. Because of Oregpn's pace that they play at they alternate twenty to twenty-two players each on offense and defense so when they rest them, it is the third team.

One problem was solved. I got an email from my boss for my seasonal job. They want me back this year. I was kind of worried about that. As you remember Tom, my other boss has decided to sell his share of the business. I was worried about that meaning less clients for Mary and Mary then not needing me to come back. Mary said it is just the opposite. More work for us. That really is a relief. I am having lunch today to see what led to his decision to move on.  Tom and I started the same year so we kind have had a bond since then. I am sorry to see that bond breaking.
I always find things at mom that prove to be interesting and once in a while they are kind of valuable. However, nowhere near as valuable as the find in the following article:

Interesting article about The Cuban Missile Crisis in the USA Today a few days ago. The forgotten hero:

An update on a previous story and why you didn't hear this question during the presidential debate on Tuesday:

Good news on the offer for returning to the job. I must admit to being ever so curious about why Tom is leaving (okay, call me a voyeur - my life isn't all that exciting).

Great find on the diamond. Who'd have thunk it?

Really interesting article on a "home town boy." I'd never heard of the man, his mission or the controversy. I obviously have to find a way to stay on top of local news, now we've dropped the paper. As to the medal and recognition... yes, he was doing his job, as were others. But he gave his life doing it and left a young wife and family. That puts a bit of a different slant on it, for me.

Pizza Hut? I thought it was not only stupid, but ill-advised and certainly nothing that should be remotely connected to the debates or election or candidates, so I'm not at all sorry they got bad press, quite frankly.

Did anyone watch the Al Smith dinner last night? I wasn't aware of it, but Alice mentioned it at the pool and I saw both candidates on YouTube and thought they did a great job. Thank goodness for a little levity in the midst of all the negatives of this campaign.

Hi DR

I will answer the rest of your post in the morning.

It had to do with a combination of things. Mostly his marriage. They were really close to separating and are in counseling. To much time at work for him. To much time on the road for her. The daughter being raised by a changing single parent. Tom when the wife was on the road. The wife when Tom was at work. He had some other issues too. But that was the main one. We had a nice time and are going to keep in touch.

Hi DR

I wish I could find a diamond like that!

I really liked the article on the missile crisis. I remember how tense that time was but I didn't remember that we lost a pilot. I think if anyone deserves a medal he does.

I am not that sorry that Pizza Hut got bad press from a bad stunt. Whatever idiot decided to pull this stunt should be fired.

I didn't watch the whole dinner but I saw excerpts from it and thought both the Gov and the Prez got in some really good lines. Wish the campaign would adopt that kind of a tone.

Okay, holding positive thoughts for Tom and his family. At least the two of them recognized the issues and are willing to deal with them, which puts them way ahead of a lot of folks.

I'm not sure any of us knew we lost a pilot during the missile crisis.

As to the comment on the dinner and the way it went. Yes, it would be ever so much more pleasant if everyone would just play nice, define the problems and offer some solutions, smile at each other, rather than the way campaigns are generally run. Sigh.

Hi DR

I admire Tom doing what most men wouldn't, go to counseling. And the counseling opened his eyes to what is important to him.

I think attacking an idea is just fine, attacking a person is awful. The campaigns start with one and morph into the other. Makes me want to get the damn thing over.
