Today. The beginning of a three day weekend. Any of you flying anywhere? Just some advise if you are, don't sit near the doors of a plane:

Mom's Lawsuit
No articles today. Just a lesson to teach everyone to go through escrow whenever a piece of property they own changes hand. If not you can get yourself and your family involved in a confusing scenerio.
Tomorrow I meet with my friend Ted about Mom's lawsuit. Here is the lawsuit and what happened a long the way.
Mom, Dad, and their friends Dick & Bernice bought an apartment complex in 1986 (Dad and Dick have since died) that is in the not so good part of town. Most of the tenants were elderly and living on tight budgets so tight at times they would go without eating. Mom and Dad got all of the tenants on HUD so that their rents would be paid for them and then they would have money for the necessities of life. The tenants loved Mom, Dad, Dick, & Bernice. They bought the property from the L Trust. After four or five years it became to much work to keep up and it was sold to buyer A on a contract, Three months later buyer A gave the property back to Mom, Dad, Dick, and Bernice. They came to my parents house and dumped all the papers on their kitchen table. Our group kept the property three months and sold it to George C. on contract After a couple of years George C gave the property back to our group. It was then sold again to a buyer no longer in the picture due to death and no remaining heirs. Once that group died the property sat vacant and the property taxes weren't paid for several years.
Our groups' mistake was not recording the deeds properly every time the property was given back to us and then sold later. They didn't go through escrow. Because of that failing everyone remained on the title.
In May of 2011 we got a letter from the county, as did everyone else still on the title, that we could have the property if we paid the fifteen grand in back property taxes. We went to look at the property and it was awful. It would have required a tremendous amount of work and expense to make it livable. We didn't want to do the work or pay the money so we just moved on.
In August Lou, a representative of the original trust that our group bought the property from, came to Mom's and stated that the trust wants to buy the property but wants clear title. For use to give them a deed in lieu of foreclosure they would give us twenty-five hundred bucks. We didn't want the property and it kind of sounded like found money. As part of us signing the dead we and Bernice obtained a hold harmless agreement. That basically means we can't lose any money ever on the property. We may have to sue someone to force them to reimburse us for attorney fees, for example.
All people on the deed except George C took the money and ran. George C ignored all correspondence and all filings. So the trust sued to obtain clear title by default. The default title was granted. George C then all of sudden started paying attention (this is after the trust had performed several repairs on the property thinking they had clear title) and sued the trust, Bernice, Mom and anyone on the deed for fraudulently kicking him off of the title. As part of that lawsuit George C asked for and got an overturn of his default.
R.P. is Lou and the trust's attorney. Because of the hold harmless agreement she accepted a tender of defense and agreed to be our attorney. She filed a strong answer to George C's complaint. She asserted the following six affirmative defenses: Laches (which basically means that a George C waited so long to sue that it puts Mom and Bernice at a disadvantage so great that they can't effectively answer the complaint), Statue of Limitations (that he waited to long to sue), Unclean hands (he is in the shape he is in due to his own doing), Fraud (he lied in his complaint), He didn't state realistic damages in his complaint, and finally the Statue of Estoppels & Waivers (it prevents inconsistent filings and once a claimant files an inconsistent claim he waives some of his rights). She also filed a counterclaim against George C. for not living up the agreement he had with Mom and Bernice for an amount not to exceed $134K.
During this saga Lou the man that knows all the history of the property became ill and it was determined he had two active cancers. Right now he is so ill that he can't talk or write. Because of his illness the court put the trial on abatement until July 12. The only action that can take place between now and then is discovery. For R.P. to continue to be our attorney Lou has to give his permission for R.P. to represent us. He can't do that. What that does is create a conflict of interest for R.P. because we may have a claim against Lou for attorney fees and other expenses. She did what a good attorney would do, advise us to get an attorney until Lou is able to confirm her tender of defense of us.
Ted is a high profile attorney. If I named some of his clients everyone in Oregon would know who they were. It is interesting how an inconsguential act can cement a friendship. A group of us meet every Sunday during football season for breakfast. At first everyone would just assume he would pay because he was wealthy. About the third week in I kind of thought this was unfair. I went to over the waitress without him knowing it and gave her my credit card. Told her to refuse his money at all costs, that day it was on me. He later told me "Nobody has ever done that for me." Talk about a small act putting a powerful man on your side, here is our conversation yesterday:
Hi, Ted this is Bill Dahn.
Long time no hear from.
I'm like one of those children that only calls when he wants something.
Name it. Anything you want.
Mom might need an attorney.
Can you be here today?
How about Friday?
See you then.
So that is Mom's lawsuit. Nothing is going to happen for a while. We have a strong friend on our side. And pray or send good vibes for Lou.

Bad Habits
Today it is off to Mom's for lunch then back for dinner and to spend the night. I would have to be there this afternoon also if it wasn't for mom playing bridge this afternoon.
A lot of times when I visit Mom I am reminded of some bad habits I have. Yes, believe it or not I do have some bad habits. I found the following article interesting:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/linda-durnell/breaking-habits_b_1500822.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl15%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D162654
One of my bad habits is snacking:

Speaking of bad habits I think our judicial system has a bad habit of convicting the wrong person:

You Gotta Have Heart
Today brings a meeting with the CPA firm that bought my business for some mentoring. Then it is grocery shopping and pharmacy pickup. Followed by paying bills and then working on the lawsuit against Mom that was mentioned a couple of months ago. I will share what is going on with the lawsuit later this week. Right now I have to get everything in order and then schedule an appointment with my attorney friend, Ted.
You gotta have heart, right? Or at least a good heart:

Sunday
Creative Cause finished third in The Preakness so Pat and I had it wrong but were at list in the money. I'll Take Another won the second leg of the Triple Crown. There hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in thirty-four years so I am officially rooting for I'll Have Another from here on out. The name comes from when the owner's wife would ask him if he wanted a cookie and he would reply, "I'll have another." Here is a recap of the Preakness:

A brief update. Last week Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at Mom's. Thursday a four hour seminar on ethics and how CPAs can innocently establish a Fiduciary duty without knowing. Friday and Saturday were resting an taking care of a wound on my leg.
This week Today lunch and dinner for Mom and the caregiver. Tomorrow the going away party for Amy. Really going to miss her. Tuesday a meeting with the guys that bought my business. Wednesday and Thursday at Mom's. Friday a day to do Bill things. Finally.
Before closing I want everyone here to pray, send good thoughts and vibes, that Voldemort goes into hiding or completely disappears.

Bet On It
The Preakness is today. Second leg of the triple crown. I don't think there will be a triple crown winner this year because I don't even think the winner of The Kentucky Derby, I'll Have Another, will win today. Today I am going with Creative Cause but I am not betting any real money out because I learn my lesson with the Kentucky Derby.
But I'd bet on this bar tender to protect me:
http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2012/05/18/d-c-bartender-stabbed-walking-patron-home-faces-staggering-medi/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-sb-nb%7Cdl11%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D162154
But I wouldn't bet on people trusting me due to the following study:

And if I was walking at night I wouldn't bet on who was talking to me:

But I wouldn't bet on people trusting me due to the following study:

Your Fired!
Heading out for a blood test this morning then maybe a movie. I don't think I will be stopping by Wal-Mart today or anytime in the near future. First, the closest one is about fifteen miles away. Second:
http://news.yahoo.com/man-says-rattlesnake-bit-him-wal-mart-wash-154020406.html
I have only been fired from one job in my life. My second job out of college. It was for one of the then Big 8 accounting firms. It was the early seventies when the big firm had increased their staff by thirty percent expecting an economic boom. Instead the economy tanked. I'd been there about ten months. I was working out in the field. I was an auditor then. I was working at a hospital in Lakewood, California when I got a call to come into the office. They told since I was the last one hired, I got to be the first one fired. I looked at the clock. It ten minutes to two. I asked, "when is this effective?". "Two O'clock. But we would like to ask you a question before you leave." "OK" "How do you think we can get along better with the staff?" I laughed. I was fine with leaving the firm, didn't like it and was handling it pretty well until I walked out the door and the receptionist was crying. Yup the women that hadn't spoken two words to me in the ten months I was there was bothered by my leaving. Speaking of bad firings, could it get any worse than the following:
http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2012/05/16/michigan-worker-fired-after-turning-in-gun-found-on-the-job/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-sb-nb%7Cdl4%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D161277
And sometimes what you say to a co-worker can get you fired. So here are some hints:

Today we are all about texting. Texting while driving and texting while walking:

It is dangerous to text and drive. Survey after survey has stated that. Yes teens are not getting the message:

Happy Mothers Day.
Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms out there. May this be a special day for all of you.
What did my Mom teach me?
To wear clean underwear because you might be in an accident.
Loyalty. She was loyal to dad to the end and is loyal to me.
Chicken Soup heals all.
The word acceptance is better than the word judgment.
The heart of of a person means more than their sex, orientation, or color.
Women are as good as men and often better.
Enjoy your family.
Put a band aid on it, it will get better.
To have friends, you have to be a friend.
Laugh and enjoy humor. Laugh even through the pain.
And she has taught me so much more. I'm lucky to still have my Mom. For those of you that have lost your moms, may they rest in peace. For those that still have Moms appreciate them. And if you are a Mom go out and have one hell of a day!
HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY.

Leftovers
Saturday is a good day for leftovers. Starting out with the articles I didn't post yesterday.
We know it wasn't a man that found the lost colony. It is against the gender code to ask for directions. If we found the lost colony it would be purely by accident. In our behalf one reason we don't ask for directions is we know the world is round and we will eventually get there.
http://news.yahoo.com/researchers-clue-lost-colony-214550117.html;_ylt=AoLkZnygg_RQZwnFZHTCZRes0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTRiM3NqYjNoBG1pdANTZWN0aW9uTGlzdCBGUCBTY2llbmNlBHBrZwM4YzI2Njk1ZC03MzgwLTM0ZDMtYjYxZi01NTE4NmE3M2U0ZGEEcG9zAzUEc2VjA01lZGlhU2VjdGlvbkxpc3RUZW1wBHZlcgMxYmNkOGM0Mi05NWY0LTExZTEtYmJhOS0wZWVhZTBmM2Y1YjA-;_ylg=X3oDMTFlamZvM2ZlBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdAMEcHQDc2VjdGlvbnM-;_ylv=3
Do you like big things? Sometimes I do:

Want to look younger:

Alarming Movies & Fruit Snacks.
Happy Friday. Need some prayers and good thoughts on my Mom's behalf. She just isn't doing real well the last few days. So say a kind word for her.
Did you ever play the prank where you set off the school's fire alarm? I never did and I never wore body spray:
http://news.yahoo.com/conn-teens-body-spray-sets-off-school-fire-132726426.html
A couple of days ago we talked about an article where a school sent home a six year-old for singing the words to a famous song. He was singing "I know I am sexy" to female student his age and was sent home for sexual harassment. We wondered whether the no tolerance policy was really a good one. The following article could make you come down on the no tolerance side:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/6th-graders-made-porn-video-mexican-school-article-1.1075639
For the final article of the day I had to choose one from finding the lost colony, or one about a big ass asteroid or the following article:

Twins, Obits, & Shoes
Things improved yesterday as the day went on and in the end it was a nice day. We had a nice dinner thanks to cousin Dixie. I got a to go order from Red Robin with a gift card she gave me. It was a delightful dinner. Chicken, veggie, and sweet potato fries.
Today should be even better. Lunch out, shredding a ton of documents, and kicking back.
No common them today. I am just posting whatever comes up or comes to mind. Every wonder the downside of being a twin?

Animal Magnetism
Guilt: the gift that keeps on giving. Erma Bombeck
Heading out to Mom's in a few minutes so am posting today's entry on the run. At mom's this time there won't be Max the Cat and I will miss the little animal. However, I hope I never see the animal in the following article:

Looking forward to getting a lot done this week with only one night and two days at Mom's. Today is a combination of running errands, cleaning house, and yard work.
Last night I watched the finals of The Amazing Race and the winners were Army couple Dave and Rachel. During the show there was an advertisement about auditions for the Amazing Race really close to where I live. Big Al's is the place all of us guys go to on Sunday mornings during football season. If any locals want to try out for The Amazing Race here is the information:
http://www.ilovebigals.com/promos/AmazingRace.html
As surprised as I was how close the auditions for the Amazing Race were to my house I was even more surprised at the statistics in the following article:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/02/marriage-affair_n_1471394.html?ref=divorce&icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl14%7Csec3_lnk2%26pLid%3D157408
I kind of always assumed an affair would kill most marriages, I know if I was married it would kill mine, but the article says most couples stay together.
We talked about the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Here is a behind the scenes look at what was going on that day at Churchill Downs:

Touching You, Touching Me.
Happy Sunday. Didn't win any money on the Kentucky Derby yesterday. Bet on the wrong horse. Today there is no betting on the agenda just lunch at Mom's and then getting dinner ready for her and the caregiver.
Passing on the updates this week. Of course you are always welcome to post your own update on the blog today or any day of the week for that matter.
Let's start today off with a really touching article:

Derby Day.
Kentucky Derby Day. I am not wearing a bonnet. I am going with Daddy Nose Best. Not the favorite, not a long shot, just sort of middle of the road. There is an off track betting site near here and I am seriously thinking about going there and going across the board with DNB.
No theme today just articles that struck my fancy for some reason or another.
Overkill was the word that came to mind when I read the following article:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/offbeat/story/2012/05/04/denver-boy-sexual-harassment-suspended.html
Come on people get a clue!
The next article brought a smile to my face:

A big applause for her fellow students for giving her a moment in the sun.
Did you know there is going to be a Super Moon tonight? Something to stay up and see. This is the point when the moon is closest to the earth. Since the moon is on the brain right now I enjoyed the following article:

Best & Unusual
Aww it is Friday and I am glad. We had a nice dinner out at Applebee's with Mom's friends Rod and Marion. Ended up with enough leftovers for dinner for Mom and the caregiver so cooking isn't necessary. On the agenda today is fixing lunch today for Mom, a movie, shopping for a going away gift for the gal at work that is going into the Army.
Before today's articles I wanted to wish Mary W. a very happy birthday. May she have many more!!
What is more important to you, things that are the best or things that are unusual? We have two of one and one of the other today.
The best cities for women:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/30/best-cities-for-women-metropolitan-areas-well-being-measure-of-america_n_1465731.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl24%7Csec3_lnk3%26pLid%3D156966
The best restaurants in the world:
http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/05/01/world-50-best-restaurants-2012/
I am disappointed nothing in Oregon made the list. I will but some of the Portland restaurants on the list and I am betting they will beat some of the restaurants listed. Higgins for creme brulee. Huber's for turkey and so on.
Speaking of restaurants. I am nominating an Ashland restaurant as the most unusual:

What Can The Heart Take?
Late today because my echocardiogram was today. The young lady that did the test said that if the doctor saw anything unusual he would contact me but she didn't anticipate that happening. I kind of liked her, when I asked her during the test how I was doing, she said "I haven't called the doctor in so that is a good sign."
It is good to know my heart will take it if I win the lottery. Or find a winning lottery ticket. Maybe.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/02/sharon-jones-lottery-winner-pay-back-winnings_n_1470244.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D157121
If you had to vote on who gets the ticket, who would you vote for?
My heart can take a winning lottery ticket but my not be good enough to take it, if I saw a snake so I hope this young man is close by:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/02/mikah-kainine-boy-bitten-by-rattlesnake_n_1471198.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-sb-nb%7Cdl13%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D157353
While my sister is gone Mom & I are taking care of Max, he valued cat. My heart almost didn't make it through a night with him. I had fallen asleep in the recliner, a deep sleep, until Max jumped in my lap. Scared the hell out of me. I am now thinking about talking sis into putting max into a new program they have in Washington state:

Health Day
With a couple of nicks a long the way things are going pretty well at Mom's. I just have to come with the terms that after 96 people just won't make decisions. On the agenda for me is a mind reading course. Since her health is always a question let's do health today.
So much information and misinformation out there about health you always have to make a decision what to believe:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/timothy-caulfield/health-myth_b_1460400.html
Some of us are considering traveling this summer and some us are in the boomer crowd, here is a few tips:

nb%7Cdl25%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D156636
Then there is that dreadful hard to spell C word that nobody really knows what it means. Until now:

Dancing Towards Investments
This is why I like Dancing With The Stars. Every season there is an unforgettable performance. The singing and the dancing are just stunning:

Remember that William is a contestant not a professional dancer.
Looking for an investment? I have just the thing for you:

The good thing about the town for sale is that it didn't appear on the following list:

Perks & Food.
am getting my game face and converting to right frame of mine to spend the next three nights at Mom's. I love Mom but sometimes she can be a tad difficult to be around. Of course I am never difficult to be around.
There are some perks to being there. Which made me thinks of the different kind of perks that employers offer:
http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2012/04/27/outrageous-and-truly-wonderful-perks-that-employers-offer-in-201/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-sb-nb%7Cdl29%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D155892
And food is always on the agenda. Sometimes we eat out. Sometimes we cook and sometimes I got get stuff and bring it home. Once in a while it is Kentucky Fried Chicken but I don't think I will do that this time, four a couple of reasons. First, I have gift cards from Red Robin and Subway and mom has gift cards from Sheri's. Second, read on:
http://news.yahoo.com/kfc-ordered-pay-8-3-million-australian-girl-062710563.html
Though desert isn't high on the agenda for either Mom and I we might dabble in a snack once in a while:

Updates Around The Blog.
Some updates from around the blog.
In case you missed the message that Snug posted on the blog a while back here it is:
"thank you, everyone, for all your kindness in my time of need. Les came home today. They wanted to discharge him as he is medically OK, just unstable on his feet, but his leg strength will come back in time. "
It has been a long battle and whe are happy the news is good. I'm still praying for Snug and her family that life gets easier.
As good as Snug's update is, is as bad as Kaye's update is. Her boy friend had briain surgery and here is some of a recent e-mail she sent me:
"News on Dave isn't what we were hoping for. He was diagnosed with a grade IV glioma. That's the worst of the worst. It's an aggressive brain tumor that originates in the brain. It seems to happen mostly with men age 60 and over. The surgery was successful, however the grade IV glioma always leaves microscopic cells behind. These are what starts to grow again. If Dave was to chose not to do anything, average life expectancy would be 8 - 9 months. After meeting with a chemo and radiation oncologist, they both told him that since his overall health is good, he should tolerate the treatments well and life expectancy is more like 2 - 4 years.
Dave started radiation therapy last week and will start chemo next week. The radiation will be for 6 weeks, every Monday thru Friday. The chemo is a pill he will take M - F one week a month. He does have some residuals from the surgery: mostly, he can't read. So he's going to speech and language therapy sessions once a week. He has like a blind spot on the right side of both eyes, so when he tries to read and as he glances from left to right, the letters just blur out or disappear. This is starting to get a little better, but if it's still an issue in a few weeks, we are to see a binocular specialist. "
All my good vibes, good thoughts, and prayers go out to Kaye and Dave and their families.
The follow two pictures are of my niece (my sister's daughter) and her son.
My niece is the one that is the morning news anchor at the CBS affliate in Dallas, Texas. She got word that they probably weren't going to renew her contract when it comes up in October. There is still a chace they may renew it but the waring is there. So some prayers and good thoughts her direction would be appreciated.

Spencer played in the SMU spring football game yesterday. He is second string Defensive End as a red shirt freshman. He was a walk on which means he doesn't have a scholarship. If he stays second string or movies to first string any time during the 2012 football season they would put him on scholarship. He played really well yesterday. However, good thoughts that he continues to play well, avoids injury, and lands a scholarship would be appreciated.
I'm sending good vibes and good thoughts Pat's way that her shoulder improves and that her overall health improves. Prayers got DR's way for a safe and rewarding trip to Arizona. And of course Dona's also gets our warm fuzzies for her and The Shankster. The Satellite Sisters announced on one of their shows a few weeks ago, that their dad is suffering from demaential Prayers, good thoughts, and good vibes go out their way also.
As to me I am surviving. My heart issues seem to be improving but they still want me to do the darn tests. The last couple of days I cooked some dynamite lunches and dinners for Mom & the caregiver. I will do that again today. The tomorrow starts three nights at Mom's. I will try very hard to do a blog entry each day but it may be hit and miss on the blog.
The blog is now yours. Update me on your life. Post anything you damn well please. Comment Away.

Pondering
I got up this morning, poured myself a cup of freshly brewed coffee, sat down in my easy chair and started pondering. A simple exercise that at times can be dangerous, at other times can be peaceful, at other times rewarding, it can be problem solving time, or maybe it can just be a time to wonder about the world and just what are the most colorful mountains in the world:
http://www.gadling.com/2012/04/27/exploring-the-most-colorful-mountains-in-the-world-in-purmamarca/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl7%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D156102
From wondering about mountains to wondering what I missed when I fell asleep before the sunset last night:

Just as I got done pondering sunsets a cute little kitty appeared and peeked in my patio door. Made me wonder if all animals are that cute:

Friday
Friday, the second one since the job finished. Certainly a different day depending on whether or not you are working. Today's agenda includes doing some work for a client, lunch and dinner for Mom, picking up around the house, picking up Mom's drugs, and watching the NFL draft. A little stress, a little work, a little fun. Not a bad day. The day started off in a good fashion when I read the following article:
http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2012/04/portland_teens_charity_aims_to.html
Because it feels kind of weird lately getting up in the morning and not having a place to go to I enjoyed the following article:

Without going to work I can sleep in, I enjoyed the following tips:

The Unusual
Sister leaves this morning for Texas and I take over with Mom. Ten days, I can do anything. Since Mom is the unusual 96 year old in her honor we will do unusual stories:

Luck
I had a nice day yesterday. Paying bills, banking, shopping and the movie "The Lucky One." Not a bad movie. It is a movie that a movie that my brother would call a groin movie. Have his wife kick him the groin, that way he saves two hours and ten bucks and still gets a good cry in. It was a touching story of a soldier that finds a photograph of a woman, then after the war searches out the woman for thanking her for saving his life. Nicolas Sparks. Should have known.

I'm Sorry.
On the agenda today is a good lawn mowing, paying bills, a pickup around the house, and maybe a movie.
Today I am sharing a story that was in yesterday's Oregonian that I found kind of touching:
http://www.oregonlive.com/living/index.ssf/2012/04/a_teacher_a_student_and_a_39-y.html
Do you have someone you would like to find and apologize to? I have several. Teachers and fellow students. Maybe at some point I will try to find them.
It is going to be in the eighties today so eating some ice cream might be on the agenda:

A Hundred Buck Attitude
Let's start the day off with ten things you should know today:
http://news.yahoo.com/10-things-know-today-april-22-2012-093000400.html;_ylt=AqO.nUipVxGkK.wUcXAkZECs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTQzbWMybXZkBG1pdANPcGluaW9uIEZyb250IFBhZ2UEcGtnAzQ1MjJmMGVjLTRlOWEtM2NjYi1iZjhlLTgxMmNhMjIxOWIxYQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDTWVkaWFTZWN0aW9uTGlzdAR2ZXIDZjNkMjE3MDAtOGM4MC0xMWUxLTlmZGYtNTNhZmI4NjVlYmY3;_ylg=X3oDMTFrM25vcXFyBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdAMEcHQDc2VjdGlvbnMEdGVzdAM-;_ylv=3
The cruise was great. The weather was questionable in the morning but just as we were standing in line to board the cruise the clouds went away and the sun came out and stayed the rest of the day. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the chicken pomodore. Every was given a Caesar salad before the main course. Everything was on the firm including drinks. It was an absolutely perfect way to end tax season. And look what was given to the employees during the cruise:

(click on picture to enlarge it)
My last week was as follows. Monday I finished up at work about 2 then went and did some errands for Mom. I also went to downtown Portland to check where the parking was for the cruise and where we boarded. Tuesday was the movie The Hunger Games. To damn long. Wednesday was putting the finishing touches on my tax return. I put it on the back burner when I found out I owed a ton. Thursday was Mom day. Mom & I went to the heart doctor. Then we stopped for lunch. The while I did two loads of laundry at her house we played three games of Scrabble. I fixed a nice dinner for us. Made coffee for Mom and the caregiver for the next morning. I had to stop at the pharmacy on the way home. I got home about 9. Long day. Friday was personal errand day. Haircut. Car Wash. Grocery shopping. Dry cleaners. Gas up..
On the agenda this week is today is paying bills, lunch at Mom's, and a little pickup around the house. Tomorrow probably a movie. Tuesday the troops are going out to celebrate the end of tax season. Wednesday my sister and her husband leave for Texas so Mom duty begins. Wednesday night and all day Thursday at Mom's. Friday and Saturday is making sure meals are provided for Mom and the caregiver. I don't want to brag but they like my meals better than sister's.
That is it for the day. What was on your agenda last week? What is on your agenda for next week? Need prayers and good vibes for yourself, your relatives, or your friends? Something bothering you and you need to vent? Fire away. The blog is yours today so post anything you damn well please. I love hearing about your lives.

Sailing Away
I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers, positive vibes, and good thoughts. With everyone behind me I think I am a slam dunk to nail those heart tests.
I'm really looking forward to the cruise today. The weather is cooperating with it being sunny and inthe mid seventies. Be a great way to spend three or four hours!
Starting the day off with a bit of a warning:

It's My Turn
It is now my turn to ask for prayers, good vibes, and good thoughts. Mom & I had our annual heart doctor appointment. Mom is fine. However, they detected an abnormality in my heart. I have two upcoming tests. An echocardiogram on 5-3 and a nuclear stress test on 5-7. If I said I wasn't scared I would be lying. So I'm pleading for your prayers and good thoughts.
I am tackling a tough subject today, bullying. I cannot recommend the movie BULLY enough. It should be required viewing for every teacher, every school administrator, and every student from the age of six on up.

The Disturbing
Enjoyed the day yesterday sort of a combination of a day off and doing chores. I did go to The Hunger Games. Not a bad movie just to long. Plus it was kind of unrealistic because the troops didn't rebel. Today a little more rest and a little more work on my own taxes. Taxes are always disturbing so we are doing disturbing stores today.
Up first if more for Moms and parents to worry about:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/16/choking-game-study_n_1428607.html?1334593558&icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl15%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D152382
How stupid is this game? Why kids would want to play this game is beyond me.
Next up is another disturbing story:

Now on to a dumb move by a law enforcement officer

Now on to a dumb move by a law enforcement officer

Recovery
My first day off since February 1 and Mom, bless her heart, wanted me to come into see her today. But I am taking a me day. I finished at two-thirty yesterday afternoon. It was to late to go to a movie. So I ran Mom errands and checked out the boarding and parking situation for a cruise I am going on Saturday. The firm picked The Portland Spirit Lunch cruise for their end of the tax season party. It boards at 11:30 AM and the cruise is from 12 to 2. Food and drinks are on the firm:
http://www.portlandspirit.com/cruises.php
Not going to a movie yesterday turned out to be a good thing thanks to my cousin/sister Dixie who sent me some nice gift cards. Red Robin, Wendy's, & Regal Cinemas. Three of my favorites. Waiting to go to a movie now means it is free!!
One thing that was a gigantic mixed emotion incident happened a couple of weeks ago. I am the executor of Mark's estate. He sent me his will and his letter of instruction. He gave me five percent of his estate. Which is a good chunk of change. Although I am overwhelmed that he would mention me and tell me that is was what his wife wanted I hope I never see a penny of it. That would mean he outlived me.
At work, the word is official a 23.5% increase over last year in my output. It is amazing how much I can do when there isn't someone bugging me several times a day like last year. I ended up doing as much alone as S (the doofus) and I did together last year. Overall the firm did more work this year than last with two less people. Best staff since I've been there.
On the agenda today is a car wash, a haircut, a little work on my own tax return (I filed an extension) and a movie.
Now on to today's post and a couple of articles. I will be drinking a lot of coffee today so the first article interest me a bit:

And I will start connecting with friends that I have ignored for the past few months:

Good Monday
Off to my last day of work for a while maybe I will finish by noon and go to a movie. Since I am in a good mood lets do good stories today:
Children stories are often charming:

Celebrities you probably haven't heard of doing good things are often charming:

And what about truck drivers stepping up to the plate:

Sunday, Sunday.
I honestly didn't realize how tired I was until I got up this morning. Maybe now that it is almost over my body is speaking to me. I haven't really had a day off since February 7. Tuesday will be the first and I am going to try to sleep in! I didn't meet my goal of doing one hundred returns at the firm but I came damn close. I think I would have made the goal if they would have given me a few more returns. I will say that in the four years that I have been there this is the best staff that they have had. We did more work than last year, with less stress, and fewer people. I do think next tax season will be harder because of Amy going to the Army. I hope my lottery winnings come in before then.
I received a couple of updates from Snug. Here is the first one:
"The good is that he moved to the rehab facility today, and all's well. It's a matter of time for him to get back on his feet and I'll have to be patient. The bad is that my dad started acting up. Phoned me and demanded that I place him in a home because "nobody looks after him" (he knows very well Les is in hospital). The ugly is that he pulled out his NG tube so mum had to take him to hospital to get one inserted. Do old men regress into small children when wives/daughters are already maxed out? I'm actually tempted to put him into a few weeks' respite care, if only to give my mum a break. "
Sound familiar? Seems like we had a blog post a while back that when our parents reach a certain age they change for giving folks to selfish ones and the only thing they really care about is if their needs are met. This to shall pass.
Then better news followed today:
"Sometimes, it makes me frightened what I'll be like when I'm old. After all, my dad is half my gene pool! As it is now, with Les's medical issues, I'm taking a hard look at middle age, and it aint pretty. But we did have a good weekend. The rehab facility gave him "home leave" because there's no physio on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, and he proved to them that he could go to the loo on his on, and could walk a few steps to transfer between wheelchair and seat, wheelchair and loo, that sort of thing. So he went home on Saturday afternoon, and he doesn't have to be back at the facility until Sunday evening. He was very happy to be home, and the dogs were very happy to see him. Queeni (she's daddy's girl) hasn't left his side."
Love the loyal dog. And getting old isn't for sissys.
Keep Adi in your prayers.
Now the blog is yours. Post whatever you damn well please. Share anything you want to. Vent. Update us. Just post something so I know you are alive!

Crunch Time
I am trying to get enough work done so that I can finish by Monday. Then there is lunch and dinner for Mom. Not enough time for a blog post today. I will return tomorrow.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! Except Mary, I just hope she survives it!

Easter Hangover
I hope you all had a nice Easter. Here is an article that is kind of a hangover from the holiday:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/23/what-happens-when-you-die_n_1376602.html?ref=science&icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl15%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D148272
I'm not sure I agree with the article but it was an interesting attempt.
I do know what happens to people if they try to scam you into believing that they will help you with all your tax problems:
http://www.foxbusiness.com/industries/2012/04/04/taxmasters-hit-with-15m-judgement/
They got what they deserved!
And I do know where you can for help for any of life's problems:

Easter
"Easter says you can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there." ~Clarence W. Hall
"Passover and Easter are the only Jewish and Christian holidays that move in sync, like the ice skating pairs we saw during the winter Olympics." Marvin Olasky
To me Easter is day of reflection. A day of celebration with the family. A day of renewal. A day of a new Dahn (pun intended).
For those that celebrate either holiday may your holiday be rewarding and wonderful.
For those that don't celebrate religious holidays, the following article is for you:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/06/god-prefers-kind-atheists-over-hateful-christians_n_1408519.html
Signs like the one in the above article is the reason I am proud to say I am a Methodist. It warms my heart that the positive comments about the sign out number the negative comments by thirty or forty to one.
Her is an update from Snug, AKA as Adi:
"Just a quick update: it's been ups and downs, really. He has been on the mend, and can now wheel himself about the ward in a wheelchair, though he has little strength in his legs to stand -- the meningitis caused a stroke-like issue with his legs. If all things go well, he is expected to move to a step-down rehab facility next week, for six weeks, where they will help him get back on his legs, or adjust to life using whatever aid is needed, be it a walking stick or a wheelchair. But the down is that although he was doing well, today he developed a fever which rapidly escalated into a high fever. So it's really still a day at a time. "
And a follow-up to my response:
"I'm taking it a day at a time, or it will become overwhelming. It is indeed daunting though, to think that it will be another 6 weeks before Les comes home. But I'm also told that 6 weeks is not really that long in terms of rehab time. Today has been a good day, no fever and he's seemingly back to normal. So I count the good days and not try to get weighed down by anything else. Your prayers and support have helped immensely, along with Dona's, and all the wonderful people at your blog."
Speaking of updates and Dona. Where in the hell has Dona been? Sure would like an update from her.
And I would like updates from all of you. Tell me what is going on in your lives. What went on. What is going on next week. How you are celebrating today's holiday. Updates on your friends that were in peril. Requests for prayers and good thoughts. Vent. Shout Joys. Post anything you damn well please.

My Kind
Although I have a lot on my plate and a to do list the size of the Incredible Hulk I am getting caught up and the job may end the middle of next week. It is kind of mixed emotions. I will miss the people. They are all very nice. This is the best and the most efficient group they have had in the four years that I have been there. No turkeys. The end of the tax season party is April 21. We are going on The Portland Spirit. That is a cruise on the Willamette River in downtown Portland. Lunch and drinks are included. I asked Nancy to come along and she will be joining us. There will be another party later in the summer. A going away party for one of my favorite people that has worked there, Amy. She is the one that once said, "it will be a very sad day when you don't work here." Well, it will be a sad day when Amy leaves for the Army. Her husband is disabled and can't work. She has two years of college and can't afford more. She just had a baby last August. She made a decision that was best for her family, it takes a strong woman to make a decision like that. The service will pay for her last two years of college. She will make enough to send money home. Her husband and her two children will move in with his parents and the in-laws will take care of the children. Damn she will be missed if I go back next year. Amy is my kind of people.
My kind of mob:
http://www.marketplace.org/topics/business/cash-mobs-try-boost-small-businesses
The idea is spreading and just recently showed up in Washington State.
My kind of friend is one that sends me charming links, like the following one that DR sent:
http://www.maniacworld.com/stay-calm-dad.html
I want that little girl in charge of something, anything, she is just to darn precious.
My kind of article:

The idea is spreading and just recently showed up in Washington State.
My kind of friend is one that sends me charming links, like the following one that DR sent:

Necessary? Unnecessary?
Today we are playing necessary vs. unnecessary. I give you an article and you tell me if what they are trying to do in the article is unnecessary or necessary.
First up, the cell phone:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/01/us/police-tracking-of-cellphones-raises-privacy-fears.html?_r=1&ref=ericlichtblau
Next up a potential new California law:
http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2012/03/27/california-bill-would-punish-student-teacher-dating/
Finally, a little laughter:
http://news.yahoo.com/laughter-clubs-catch-stressed-hong-kong-041602266.htm
While some of the schemes in the above articles may be unnecessary your comments are necessary to make the blog more interesting so, Comment Away.

Going Bald, Going Cold, & Going Old.
It's Monday! Just a little over two weeks I get a day off! In the meantime I am considering going bald:
http://todayhealth.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/30/10938746-barbie-goes-bald-thanks-to-facebook-campaign
I have been referred a few times during my life as a warm person. I am going against that trend and going cold today:
http://www.stylelist.com/stacey-platt-and-sarah-hayon/spring-cleaning-organize-freezer_b_1386885.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl3%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D147728
And after watching the following video I am thinking about going old:
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/03/30/86-year-old-german-gymnast-johanna-quaas_n_1390656.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl7%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D148081

You've Been Pranked.
Let's start the day off with an appropriate for the day article:
http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2012/03/30/april-fools-day-pranks-at-work/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-nb%7Cdl9%7Csec3_lnk2%26pLid%3D148189
I have pulled off a few pranks in my life. Small ones. Short sheeting. Icy Hot in shorts and jock straps. And so on. Probably the best prank ever thought of in my lifetime was the mastermind of a really good friend and myself. We had the good sense to call of the prank at the last minute. R & I worked at a company where Bob W. was our supervisor. He was a racist bigot magnified. It was winter time R was a professional baseball player just keeping busy until the season started up again. Neither one of us were bigots and it was quite annoying to listen to the B.S. Bob W. was spewing. R knew an African-American teammate that was taking acting classes. We decided to hire the acting class dude to come in to work one day and go to Bob's office and ask Bob if he could marry his daughter. We chickened out at the last minute because we didn't want to go to jail if he died of a heart attack. Any pranks in your past, done or undone?
Time for an update. My boss told me something on Friday that really kind of shocked me. I've worked fifty-nine more hours this year than I did last year at this time. When you add to it that I've also done a lot more with Mom this tax season than last it becomes pretty amazing that I'm not that tired. I am a year older and doing more work than for many years so I should be exhausted. I'm not really.
Last week of course it was five days of work. Three work projects at home. Dinner Thursday night at Mom's. Last Sunday and yesterday at Mom's. The next week is going to be six days at work (it is crunch time so Saturday is added to the schedule.) Thursday night is at Mom's. Saturday in between work is at Mom's to prepare Saturday and Sunday dinners. Other than that there really isn't much to do.
OK, I spilled my guts. Now spill yours. Catch me up on what is going on with you, your friends, and relatives. Let me know who needs prayers and/or good thoughts. Vent if you so desire. Shout the good stuff at the top of your longs if you so desire. Post anything you damn well please.
I am closing with a damn cute video that DR. sent:
